Surf allows you to transform into Lapras and cross bodies of water. This makes traveling to areas such as Bleak Beach easier.

How to Learn Surf

Find Lapras

Tropical Seaside habitat

Lapras is the Pokemon that teaches you Surf. To get Lapras to spawn on the area, you need to create a Tropical Seaside habitat in Bleak Beach. This requires one Large Palm Tree and four Hedges and place them near the ocean.

The hint for the Tropical Seaside habitat appears when you speak to Piplup while he has the "Let's swim together!" yellow speech bubble. This appears right after you construct your first home in Bleak Beach.

Complete Lapras's Request

Complete Lapras

After Lapras appears in its habitat, it will ask a request from you. To complete the request, you need to wash away 80 squares of mud in the surrounding area. Doing so unlocks the Surf move.

How to Use Surf

Press the B Button Near the Water

Surf Move

While near a water block, press the B Button to transform into Lapras. Use the Left Thumbstick to move and swim in water. Ditto will automatically revert back once they reach land.
