The Thermal Defense in Pikmin 4 is a gear you can use during exploration. Our guide will show you the effects of the Thermal Defense, how to get it, and how to use it.

Equipping the Thermal Defense gear gives you immunity from ice damage. It also prevents you from getting frozen!

Pikmin 4 - Take Ice Damage

Raw Material Cost 50

You can unlock the Thermal Defense before the sparklium requirement if you, Oatchi, or your Pikmin take any ice damage. This can be from ice walls or enemies like the Icy Blowhog.

Once it's unlocked, you can purchase it from Russ at the Lab for 50 Raw Materials.

Alternatively, you can purchase the Thermal Defense once you reach a total of 4800 Sparklium if you've managed to avoid taking the specific elemental damage.

Equip From Gear and Skills Menu

Pikmin 4 - How to Equip Gear

The effects of the Thermal Defense are automatically activated once you get it. You can unequip it at any time by pressing + for the Tablet Menu and going to Gear and Skills.
