How to Build Every Type of Habitat
Reach Postgame to Befriend Magnemite
Magnemite can only be befriended after completing the Do the... Team Initiation Challenge. Enter the big hole after the rocket launches, and you'll encounter Magnemite as a static encounter.
Teaches Magnet Rise
After completing Help Make a Home, Magnemite can teach you the move Magnet Rise. This allows you to fly freely compared to Glide and build better establishments using the replace and pickup features.

Help Make a Home is Magnemite's initial request. Here, you simply need to build a Factory Storage for Magnemite. The required items are easy to find in most areas, with two, Metal Drum and Jumbled Cords, already available on the same floor as Magnemite.
Help Make a Home (Magnemite) Walkthrough
Go to Sparkling Skylands for the Control Unit
The Control Unit is readily available in Sparkling Skylands, specifically on the eastern island. Pick it up and bring it back to Withered Wasteland to build Magnemite's home.
This leaves you with streetlights, which there are plenty to choose from. You can craft one or grab one in the same area or in Bleak Beach.
