Rescue the Trapped Man: Where to Find the Dowry

How to Rescue the Trapped Man

Break the Broken Wooden Door

When you reach Waukeen's Rest, head inside the west building and go up. Across the hallway, there is a broken wooden door blocking the path to the trapped man. There will be an explosion when you destroy the door, so keep your distance and break it down by attacking it with ranged attacks.

Lift the Beam Off the Trapped Man

Once you get inside, interact with the Splintered Beams to help get it off of him. You will need to pass one of the skill checks to rescue him. The best choice would be Strength since it has an easier difficult check of 10, so get a character with high Strength, like Lae'zel, when interacting.

What Happens If You Fail

If you fail the skill check, the option to save him will disappear with that character. However, you can interact with the beam with a different party member and try to pass the skill check again. This gives you four free attempts to rescue the man.

In the unfortunate event that you cannot save him, you can still get information about the dowry by casting Speak to the Dead on his deceased wife. You can also cast this spell after rescuing the man for extra dialogue, though it does not affect much.

Escape to the Previous Room

After getting the beam off of him, you will automatically enter turn-based mode. During this time, make sure to have your party escape to the previous room before exiting turn-based mode. This is to avoid getting damaged by the rapidly spreading fire that consumes the room.

Find the Dowry

Once the man enters the next room, speak with him and listen to him grieve about his recently deceased wife. When he does, ask him about the dowry so that you can progress to the next part of the side quest.

Where to Find the Dowry

Go Inside the Barn

You can find the dowry by leaving the building and heading to the barns northwest of the manor. You can jump over the fire to get to the barn without getting damaged.

When you are in the area, go inside the nearest barn and walk up next to the haystack. You will need to pass an automatic Perception check to reveal the chest inside, so bring your other companions too for higher chances of finding it. Afterwards, interact with the chest and loot the dowry inside.

Bring Back the Dowry

Finally, to finish the quest, bring back the dowry to the man. You can choose to give it back to him, or keep it for yourself and sell it for a pretty penny. Either way, this will conclude the quest and you can continue with your adventure.

Rescue the Trapped Man Rewards

Dowry or None

Completing the quest will give you two options for the reward. You can choose to selfishly keep the dowry for yourself, or receive nothing in return when you give it back to the man.
