Baldur

Concentration is a mechanic in Baldur's Gate 3 in which certain spells require spellcasters to maintain concentration in order to keep a spell active. Read on to learn more about Concentration, how concentration spell works, and how to disrupt concentration spells!

What is Concentration?

Mechanic to Keep a Spell Active

Concentration is a mechanic some spells require in order to keep their effects active. To see if a spell requires Concentration, hover your cursor over a spell and an eye icon beside a ”Concentration” text will be displayed in the information bar, as well as how many turns will the spell last.

Concentration is Passive

Concentration begins as soon as a concentration spell is cast, it doesn't require any other input from the player outside of casting the spell and

These concentration spells can range from buffs that grant resistance to damage, inflict status ailments to enemies, or engulfing an area with AoE debuff effects.

Only One Concentration Spell at a Time

Only one concentration spell can be maintained at a time. Using another concetration spell will immediately cancel out the previous one.

Losing Concentration

If the caster takes damage while a concentration spell is active they will automacially perform a Constitution Saving Throw, which if failed will immediately end the spell.

Concentration will also be lost if the caster if the caster gets knocked out or killed.

Can Perform Basic Movements and Attacks While Concentrating

It might also be worth noting that spellcasters can still maneuver around and cast out normal spells while a Concentration spell is active.

You can use this to your advantage by positioning your caster away from harm each turn in order to prolong the duration of the Concentration spell and prevent your opponents from canceling it out.
