How to Get Scratch the White Dog

Head to the Forest Near the Blighted Village

Scratch can be found next to his dead owner in the forest to the north of the Blighted Village. Once there, you can interact with him and pass a skill check so that he would follow you and visit your camp.

How to Convince Scratch to Follow You

Make Him Comfortable Around You

NPC Dialogue Make Scratch Follow You - Baldur
''Grrr-arf! Arf! Arf!.''
Dialogue Options Dialogue Results
[ANIMAL HANDLING (DC10)]
Kneel - you mean no harm
Success
Recruit Scratch to your camp
Failure
Scratch remains cautious
[PERCEPTION (DC10)]
Peer at his collar
[INTIMIDATION (DC10)]
''Stand down!''

Scratch will be wary of strangers because his owner had passed away. Players will need to make Scratch comfortable around you by passing a skill check.

You only need to pass one of the skill checks to make Scratch calm down. It is recommended to have a party member who has a proficiency in Animal Handling, Perception, or Intimidation to talk with him, like Wyll or Astarion.

Additionally, players are suggested to choose the Animal Handling option first since it gives you a higher chance to succeed. This is becaues if you fail Animal Handling, the other two skill checks will still be available. On the other hand, if you fail either Perception or Intimidation first, then you will only be left with one other choice.

Do Not Use Animal Speak

Another important note is to not use Animal Speak when speaking with Scratch. While it may seem like using it would help convince Scratch, using it instead makes the Difficulty Check of all choices to 15 instead of 10. This significantly lowers your chances of calming him down.

Who is Scratch?

A Friendly Dog NPC

Pet Scratch in Camp - Baldur

Scratch is a white dog that had his previous master recently die because of Gnolls. He is also a friendly NPC that can be recruited to your camp and offer fun activities.

Play with Scratch

Once you recruit Scratch to your camp, players can eventually play with him. As you take several long rests at the camp, Scratch will eventually give you a ball to play with together.

Finds Random Items

Every once in a while, Scratch will also find random items and give it to you at the camp. However, you will need to pass a Strength check so that he would let go of the pouch containing the items.
