Baldur
Falling from a certain height can cause any character in Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3) to take fall damage. Read on to learn how to lessen fall damage when jumping down from heights.

Is There Fall Damage?

Fall Damage Exists

Baldur
Falling from elevated areas can inflict bludgeoning fall damage on your characters. The damage scales with the height of the fall, and higher falls cause more damage upon impact.

In addition to the fall damage, there is also a chance to get the status condition called Prone which penalizes your Strength and Dexterity on Saving Throw rolls once inflicted with it.

You can check if a certain height can inflict fall damage by looking at the indicator when selecting a landing point with the jump action.

How to Survive Prone

Baldur
Landing on safe overworld objects like webs and vines can save you from getting Prone.

Twisting Vines, for example, can inflict the status condition Entangled which cancels the chances of getting Prone upon landing .

Fall Damage Also Affects Enemies

Baldur
You can also use fall damage as an offensive action on enemies during combats. Using movement actions like Shove can help you push off enemies from elevated areas and cause them to fall over and take fall damage.

You can also use spells like Thunderwave to knock enemies off and inflict fall damage upon falling.

Find a Closer Platform

Baldur
When jumping down from heights, you can lessen the fall damage by finding a closer platform to jump on. Hover your mouse when selecting a landing spot and simply jump on the area with no fall damage indicator.

Keep in mind that not all platforms will have a safe space to land on when going down. In cases like this, it is best to use spells like Feather Fall to negate all fall damage from the jump or fall.

Use Feather Fall

Baldur
Feather Fall is spell you can use to gain full immunity to fall damage. You can cast this on yourself or nearby allies to negate fall damage during battles or while out exploring.

Use Rogue Characters

Baldur
Rogue Characters like Astarion learn the Second Story Work feature upon reaching Level 3. This feature provides fall damage resistance to the character when jumping or falling from elevated platforms.
