The max level in Baldur's Gate 3 is Level 12 as confirmed by Larian Studios in their 20th Community Update for BG3. While the original plan was to have the level cap at 10, the developers increased it to 12 in order to maximize the potential of all playable characters in BG3.
It's recommended to turn off the Karmic Dice setting and rely on the odds of your rolls without any added influence.
While Karmic Dice intend to balance out good and bad rolls, it can also prove to be disadvantageous in combat should you have good rolls consecutively, as it will attempt to level the playing field by giving you just as many bad rolls.

Using Illithid Powers may result to your companions either approving or disapproving of your actions, with some like Astarion being open to wielding Illithid Powers while others like Lae'zel may oppose it.
You can also have an ally consume it, provided that you can persuade them through dialogue options. Do note that continuously failing to persuade them will earn you their disapproval and result to a strain in your relationship.
If you choose to further unlock other abilities in the skill tree, there will be changes in the main storyline that will ultimately affect the outcome of the game.
Consequences of Illithid Powers
The Iron Flask is a magical artifact, capable of trapping and holding a creature inside. Removing the stopper from the Iron Flask will unleash a powerful creature known as the Spectator. The creature itself is Lv.5 and has a beefed up HP of 95.
It won't drop anything useful upon killing it, but you'll still receive a decent amount of experience from it.
You can give the Iron Flask to Zarys located at the Zhentarim hideout at Waukeen's Rest, as long as the flask is still inside the chest and that you haven't opened the chest yet. Otherwise, she'll notice that you took a peek inside and will turn everyone in the hideout hostile.
Delivering the chest containing the flask to her will reward you with a unique crossbow called Harold, and you'll gain access to an improved stock from the merchant in the hideout.s
What to Do With the Iron Flask
Hirelings are unlocked once your character reaches Level 3. Once you level up to Level 3, a speech bubble with an exclamation point will appear above Withers' head. Speak to the friendly undead to unlock the option to recruit Hirelings.
Players who do not yet have Withers in their camp will first have to find him inside the Dank Crypt near the starting beach. Prepare to delve into a dungeon filled with traps, bandits, and reanimated skeletons in order to awaken Withers from his rest.
