This is a walkthrough on how to avoid killing Buthir in the barn in Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3). Read on to know which classes to bring to pass the skill checks and how to avoid this awkward confrontation!

How to Avoid Killing Buthir
Do Not Interact with the Door
If you encounter the barn just north of the Blighted Village, you can simply not interact with the shabby wooden doors to the barn and avoid the awkward confrontation. Doing this will keep you from witnessing something you shouldn't have, and it will also help you avoid a potential fight.
Make Them Leave in Shame
In the moment you do take a peek inside, you will be greeted with Grukkoh and Buthir making love to each other. They will be upset that you interrupted their intimate moment and attack you. However, if you have a Bard or Barbarian character, like Karlach open the door, then you will have a chance to make them leave in shame.

One way you can avoid the situation is by having your Bard pass a Persuasion skill check. Having a high Charisma stat will help you have a higher chance of succeeding, and it will make the two leave in shame.

Similar to the Bard option, you can also make the two leave humiliated by making a Barbarian open the door and pass the Intimidation check. Having a high Charisma stat or Intimidation proficiency would also give you a better chance at passing.
Flee the Scene
Lastly, if you are forced to enter combat with them, you can flee the scene. To do this, you have the use any spells that can slow them down or distract them, like Web or Minor Illusion, and dash as far as possible. You can also use spells that blind them, and when you are far enough from their range of vision, they will give up the fight.
Rewards
Rewards for Killing Buthir and Grukkoh
If you choose to kill the two lovers, you can loot a variety of items from the barn. Notably, you can get a Diluted Oil of Sharpness and two Silver Ingots from the Mangled Corpse in the center. You can also get a few weapons, camp supplies, gems, books, and some gold inside.
Rewards for Not Killing Buthir
As of writing, there are no known rewards for avoiding killing Buthir, aside from letting her continue to exist in your playthrough.
