Underground Passage Guide

The Underground Passage is an optional area found in Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3). Read on to find out how to reach the Underground Passage, how to clear it, and what you can find within it!

How to Reach The Underground Passage

Stone Door In Forest

You can reach the Underground Passage by entering through the Stone Doors located directly West of the Emerald Grove gate and the Emerald Grove Environs Waypoint.

Take note of the perception check required to reveal the Stone Door.

Entering From The Forest

Entering from the Forest is slightly more challenging since you will need to make your way past an Eagle Guardian Statue before you can reach the rune required to deactivate it.

Be wary of the nearby Oil Barrel, as the Guardian Statue uses flaming projectiles that can ignite the Oil Barrel and cause massive amounts of damage.

Dealing with the Goblin party inside the passage is also slightly easier from this entrance because of the highground advantage.

Hidden Entrance

There is a hidden entrance to the Underground Passage locked behind a perception check near Sazza's Cage.

Walk around Sazza's Cage and jump down onto the ledges to trigger the perception check and reveal the hidden entrance.

Should You Save the Goblin Sazza

Entering From The Hidden Entrance

Entering the Underground Passage from the cliffside makes avoiding the Guardian Statues easier since you can reach their rune switches without having to walk in front of them.

Being able to deactivate all the Guardian Statues without taking damage also makes obtaining the Charred Key easier, since the corpse holding it is surrounded by Guardian Statues.

How to Clear The Underground Passage

Confront The Goblins

Towards the center of the passage is a group of 4 hostile Goblins that will attack the party on sight.

Even if you have Sazza accompanying you, the Goblins will call her a failure and still attack.

Should You Save the Goblin Sazza

Findal the Halfling

On the ground near the goblins is an injured halfling, Findal. He will be at 1HP and knocked out, which will keep him from drawing any aggro during your skirmish with the goblins.

Just be careful of using AoE spells or magic near him since he's only 1 hit away from dying.

Optional: You can heal Findal midfight to have him join the battle as an uncontrollable ally.

Alternatively, you can finish the battle against the goblins and then recover Findal's HP with a potion or any healing magic to wake him up.

Additionally, Findal will be carrying the Key of the Ancients. You can pickpocket him while he's still injured or loot it off of his corpse.

Disarm The Guardian Statues

Within the passage are Guardian Statues that resemble Bears, Wolves, and Eagles. Interacting with Runes will disarm all of its corresponding statues.

Alternatively, these traps can also be destroyed with spells like Eldritch Blast, given you can deal enough damage.

Obtain Nature's Snare

Nature's Snare is an Uncommon Magic Quarterstaff that can be obtained from a locked, booby trapped chest within the Underground Passage.

If you have some spare Thieves Tools and Trap Disarming Kits, Astarion can make quick work of the chest.

Obtain The Charred Key

If you did not include Astarion in your party, you can open the chest using the Charred Key that is found on a corpse beside the Rune of the Wolf.
