Baldur

Hirelings can be recruited in Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3) by speaking to Withers after you reach Level 3. Check out our Hireling recruitment guide for a complete list of all Hirelings in BG3 including info on how to unlock this feature, how much it costs to recruit a Hireling, as well as how to dismiss them from your party.

How to Unlock Hirelings

Reach Level 3 and Speak to Withers at the Camp

Hirelings are unlocked once your character reaches Level 3. Once you level up to Level 3, a speech bubble with an exclamation point will appear above Withers' head. Speak to the friendly undead to unlock the option to recruit Hirelings.

How to Go to the Camp

Find Withers at the Dank Crypt If You Don't Have Him at the Camp

Baldur

Players who do not yet have Withers in their camp will first have to find him inside the Dank Crypt near the starting beach. Prepare to delve into a dungeon filled with traps, bandits, and reanimated skeletons in order to awaken Withers from his rest.

How to Recruit Hirelings

Give Withers 100 Gold to Recruit a Hireling

Baldur

To recruit a Hireling in Baldur's Gate 3, simply speak to Withers and spend 100 Gold to open the recruiting menu. Once there, select one of the 12 different Hirelings available to recruit them (each one represents one of the playable classes in the game).

Once recruited, Hirelings will scale to your current level, making them useful in a pinch if your party needs a role to be filled temporarily. In BG3, you can have a maximum of 3 Hirelings in your party at any given time.

Hirelings Cannot Be Recruited If Your Party Has No Free Slot

Baldur

Withers will refuse to let you recruit a Hireling if you have no free slots in your party. In order to recruit a Hireling, you will need at least 1 free slot. This can be achieved by asking one of your Companions to stay behind in Camp.

Speak to Withers Again to Dismiss Hirelings

Baldur

If you want to dismiss your recruited Hirelings, simply speak to Withers and select the option to Dismiss a Hireling. This will bring up a second dialogue menu from which you can select the names of the Hirelings you want to dismiss.
