The max level in Baldur's Gate 3 is Level 12 as confirmed by Larian Studios in their 20th Community Update for BG3. While the original plan was to have the level cap at 10, the developers increased it to 12 in order to maximize the potential of all playable characters in BG3.

Complete Quests

Baldur
Completing quests can help you gain more experience points to level up. You can get quests by talking to NPCs and progressing the main story of the game.

To see all the active quests you have, press Ctrl+J to open the journal screen. You can check all the active quests you have in this screen and all the ones you have already completed.

Defeat Enemies in Battles

Baldur
During battles, make sure to defeat all enemies to gain experience. Ending battles by fleeing will not give you experience points to level up.

Discover New Areas

Baldur
You can also get experience from exploring the map and discovering hidden areas. This is also a good way to find enemies and get new quests which can also help you gain experience as mentioned above.
