You can save your progress in Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3) by creating or overwriting a save in the menu, or pressing the quick save button. Read on to find out how to save, quick save, and load your game progress in Baldur's Gate 3.

Manually Save By Opening the Menu and Press Save Game

To manually save your progress, open the menu (Escape key for PC) when not in battle, then press the Save Game button to bring up the Save screen.

Saving through the menu allows you to name the save file before saving it, and also allows you to overwrite older save files.

Quick Save by Pressing the Quicksave Button

Baldur
You'll be able to quicksave by pressing the Quicksave button (F5 key for PC). With a quicksave, you can save with one press of a button, and no longer have to go through the trouble of going to the menu!

Older Quicksave Files Will Get Overwritten at Some Point

Note that at some point, your older quicksave files will get overwritten by your newer quicksaves. You can change the settings at how many quicksaves can you have before being overwritten in the Gameplay tab of the Options menu; the maximum is 25 quicksaves.

Autosave Triggers During Certain Events

The game also has an autosave system. It triggers when discovering new locations, finding waypoints, and certain other instances. Make sure you have the Autosave option turned on in the Gameplay tab of the Options menu, though it should be turned on by default.

Older Autosave Files Will Get Overwritten at Some Point

At some point, your older autosave files will get overwritten by your newer autosaves. You can change the settings at how many autosaves can you have before being overwritten in the Gameplay tab of the Options menu; the maximum is 15 quicksaves.

Open the Menu and Press Load Game

To manually load a game, open the menu, then press the Load Game button to bring up the Load screen.

Choose the save that you want to load, then press the Load Saved Game button at the bottom of the screen.

Quickload to Load the Latest Save

Baldur
You can quickly access your latest save by pressing the Quickload button (F8 key for PC).

Note that this will load the latest save, not the latest quicksave. If your latest save is a manual save or autosave, it will be the save file that will get loaded by the quickload.
