Draconic Bloodline Sorcerers draw power from their ancient dragon ancestors, buffing their spells based on the elemental affinity of their predecessors. At higher levels they inherit more draconic traits, ranging from elemental resistances to the ability to fly.
The Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer subclass will become available once you start creating a Sorcerer at the Character Creation screen. Unlike most classes, Sorcerers are one of the few that get to pick out their subclass before they start the game.

When creating a Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer, you will have a chance to pick your Dragon Ancestor during character creation. The choice you make here will influence your Elemental Affinity feature once you hit Level 6 for this subclass.
Alongside the elemental bonuses you get later on, each dragon ancestor will grant you one spell. Check out the list below for the spells you can get when picking a dragon ancestor to hail from.
Dragon Ancestor | Effects and Bonus Spells |
---|---|
Red (Fire) | Unlocks Burning Hands. |
Black (Acid) | Unlocks Grease. |
Blue (Lightning) | Unlocks Witch Bolt. |
White (Cold) | Unlocks Armor of Agathys. |
Green (Poison) | Unlocks Ray of Sickness. |
Gold (Fire) | Unlocks Disguise Self. |
Silver (Cold) | Unlocks Feather Fall. |
Bronze (Lightning) | Unlocks Fog Cloud. |
Copper (Acid) | Unlocks Tasha's Hideous Laughter. |
Brass (Fire) | Unlocks Sleep. |
As a descendant of dragons, parts of your skin will be covered in dragon-like scales. This feature grants you the Draconic Resilience passive at Level 1, raising your base Armor Class to 13 if you are unarmored.
Remember, in Baldur's Gate 3, unarmored does not mean no clothes! You can still wear armor, provided they do not have the Light, Medium, or Heavy Armor tag.
On top of a higher base AC, Draconic Bloodline Sorcerers also get buff to their hit points. Starting at Level 1, your Hit Point maximum will increase by 1 for each Sorcerer level you have. At level 12, you will get a bonus +12 HP to your current total.
Once you hit Level 6, you will unlock the Elemental Affinity Damage passive for your Sorcerer. When active, any spell you cast that has the same elemental affinity as your dragon ancestor will get a bonus to their damage rolls. To be precise, your spell damage will have your Charisma Modifier added to it. At level 12, you can get a maximum bonus of +5 from your Charisma Modifier.
On top of bonus damage, Draconic Bloodline Sorcerers will also be allowed to become Resistant to the element type of their dragon ancestor at Level 6 using the Elemental Affinity Resistance feature. However, unlike the damage version, you will need to spend 2 Sorcery points to get temporary Resistance to your ancestors related element.
For example, if you are a descendant of a Red dragon, you can spend 2 Sorcery Points to gain a temporary Resistance to Fire. When a creature is Resistant to an element, they only take half of the damage when hit by that particular element.
Once your Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer hits Level 11, they will gain the Fly action. However, unlike the spell, this version of Fly only requires movement speed to use (no action needed either). This effectively replaces your movement function during combat since Fly allows you to reposition to different elevations with ease.
