How to Solve the Silent Library Puzzle and Location (Riddle of the Night)

Defeat the Librarian and Justiciars

To safely solve the puzzle, you first need to destroy the Umbral Tremor called The Librarian at the center of the library to remove the Silence in the room.

This will allow you to use spells against the Dark Justiciars in the library, making them easier to take out.

Don't Push the Buttons on the Pillars

There are buttons on the pillars of the room that, when pushed, will cause lightning to strike the area in front of it and can hit enemies caught in the blast.

While you can use this to deal extra damage to the Justiciars, we don't recommend it as your party members may get hit.

Disarm the Bookcase

Head to the northeastern side of the library and disarm the left bookcase and retrieve the book called Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger.

Place the Book on the Pedestal

Head to the inner alcove in the western section of the library. A Perception check will reveal gas vents that you need to disarm to avoid getting damaged by tentacles.

Once disarmed, interact with the pedestal to hear the riddle: What can silence a Nightsong?. Place the book on the pedestal and the statue on the wall will descend to reveal a hidden vault.

Retrieve the Spear of Night

Head inside the vault and grab the Dark Justiciar Half-Plate on the floor and the Spear of Night from the altar, the latter being an important item for the Find the Nightsong sidequest.

Silent Library Rewards

Spear of Night

The Spear of Night is spear that you can get from the Silent Library Vault. While the weapon is very weak, it plays a key role in the Find the Nightsong quest and, depending on your choice, will become the stronger Shar's Spear of Evening.

Dark Justiciar Half-Plate

The vault also contains a Dark Justiciar Half-Plate, a rare Medium Armor that has the Shar's Embrace passive and Shar's Aegis spell.

You can also get the Dark Justiciar Helmet, which has the Magical Durability and Covert Critical passive.

Silent Library Location

Located in the Gauntlet of Shar

The Silent Library is located within the inner sanctum of Gauntlet of Shar in the Shadow-Cursed Lands. The exact location of the library is south of the Faith-Leap Trial room.
