How to Recruit Halsin: Companion and Romance Guide

Who is Halsin?

Halsin is the archdruid of the Emerald Grove, whose gone missing after the joining Aradin's expedition. You'll learn of him as early as Act 1 when you reach the entrance to the grove and wipe out the goblin raid party. It is important to note that while Halsin can join your camp after the Emerald Grove questline, he will only participate as a mainstay at the camp and not as an active party member.

How to Recruit Halsin

Rescue Halsin in the Warg Pen inside the Shattered Sanctum

Halsin can be found as a bear imprisoned in the Warg Pens located in the Shattered Sanctum. Clues leading up to his whereabouts are scattered across side quests in the Emerald Grove and surrounding areas.

How to Save the First Druid Halsin

Halsin Joins Your Camp If You Side With The Grove

During the events of the final Emerald Grove Raid in Act 1, Halsin will join your camp if you aid in the defense of the grove — regardless if you helped him escape the Shattered Sanctum or not.

Joins Your Camp As a Passive Member

Although, Halsin will not join your party after the events of the Emerald Grove raid. Similar to Withers, he will remain in camp, and he can only become a playable companion when you start his sidequest of Lifting the Shadow Curse.

Halsin Will Not Join If You Side With Minthara

Halsin will not join your party or even interact with you after the raid if you side with Minthara during the Emerald Grove raid. It is currently unknown if we'll see Halsin again after the event.

Find Thaniel

Once Halsin is in your camp, talk to him when you reach the Shadow-Cursed Lands in Act 2. This will start the Lift the Shadow Curse side quest which lets Halsin become a playable companion.

Wake Up Art Cullagh

Make sure to side with the Harpers when you encounter them the first time in the area. Doing so will help you enter the Last Light Inn and find Art Cullagh on the first floor. After interacting with him, head to the House of Healing and get Art's Lute from Malus Thorm.

Defend Halsin and the Portal

When you wake up Art, he will give a clue to where Thaniel is located. Meet up with Halsin near Last Light Inn, and defend the portal from multiple waves of undead enemies until Halsin returns, or until all enemies are wiped out.

Willingly Help Halsin to Add Him to Your Party

After they return from the portal, you can talk to Halsin at the camp, and he will mention how there's something missing from Thaniel. If you willingly help look for Thaniel's missing half, Halsin will choose to stay by your side, and he can now be added to your party.
