Baldur

An Opportunity Attack happens when an opponent moves out of your reach during combat in Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3). Read on to learn more about Opportunity Attacks, how it works, as well as how to avoid it!

What is Opportunity Attack?

Automated Reaction Attack

Opportunity Attacks (or Attack of Opportunity) is a Reaction that allows your characters to automatically attack an enemy and interrupt their movement whenever they attempt to manuever out of their melee range in battle.

Furthermore, your enemies can also perform this action if ever your party member moves away from their reach.

Toggleable Passive Feature

You can toggle this on and off by opening the Passives tab next to Items and selecting it from there.

Disengage Prevents Opportunity Attacks

Baldur

The Disengage action allows you to retreat to safety without provoking an opportunity attack. This also gives you a chance to sneak your way through waves of enemies without being in harm's way.

Cunning Action: Disengage

Baldur

Rogues have access to Cunning Action: Disengage which uses up your bonus action instead, providing Rogue characters with more versatility as they can use up a regular action without sacrificing the opportunity to Disengage and escape out of the heat of battle.

Shoving An Enemy Away

You can Shove an enemy away from you before repositioning to a different area to prevent them from using an opportunity attack.

Disable Enemies

Enemies that are disabled will not be able to use opportunity attacks. Status effects like Stun or Prone are some examples of these status ailments.
