Is Rooted Worth It?

Yes, You Can Tank Hits While You Use Melee

Rooted is only worth it if you plan on using melee, since the Damage Resistance bonus that you get from the perk requires you to stand still. This lets you tank incoming attacks from enemies while you bash away with your melee weapons.

Rank Required Lvl. Description
Rank 1 - While standing still, you gain +25 Damage Resistance and your melee and unarmed attacks deal 25 percent more damage.
Rank 2 22 While standing still, you now gain +50 Damage Resistance and your melee and unarmed attacks deal 50 percent more damage.
Rank 3 43 While standing still, you may automatically disarm enemies that use melee weapons against you.

How to Get Rooted

Unlock Rooted at Strength 9

Rooted is on Strength Level 9

The Rooted perk is unlocked when your Strength is at Level 9. You can start at this level by assigning 9 points to Strength during the Registration Form at the start of the game. Otherwise, you can get to this level by collecting SPECIAL magazines or bobbleheads and spending perk points upon level up.

After getting to Strength 9, you're free to spend perk points on ranking up the skill, as long as you are at the required character level to rank up.
