Multiplayer on Windows and Mac is Possible

It is possible to play with friends using different Operating Systems on a PC, according to Larian Studios FAQ on multiplayer. You can send an invitation to your friends in the game and start playing together!

However, you won't be able to play multiplayer on Mac on the game's release as the full version won't be available until a later date.

Multiplayer on Steam to GOG is also Possible

You can also play with your friends even if you buy the game on different storefronts, on Steam or GOG. Connect with them online through servers, so you can start playing together!

Is There Cross-Progression?

Players who want to transfer to a different platform can continue their progress there. It will be possible as long as your main account is linked or connected to the platform you're on!

The only downside is you will need to buy the game again on the platform you're transferring to play the game there.
