You can acquire BD-1's Electro Dart Ability by naturally progressing through the game. It is unlocked during the Climb Mountain to Observatory objective in Koboh.

Board the Burning Shuttle

Star Wars Jedi Survivor Electro Dart
During your progression in the Climb Mountain to Observatory objective, you will be prompted to board a burning shuttle. After the cutscene ends, you will gain access to BD-1's Electro Dart Ability.

Hack Droids and Overcharge Objects

Star Wars Jedi Survivor Electro Dart
After entering BD-1 Mode, simply aim the projection arc to your intended target and press the button that fires the electro dart. Use it to help you traverse certain areas or hack unsuspecting droids.

Open Red Chests

Star Wars Jedi Survivor Electro Dart
You can also use the Electro Dart ability to unlock red chests. Aim BD-1 at the cylindrical battery that connects to the red chest, and fire the electro dart towards it to unlock the chest.
