Jedi Survivor - Should You Embrace the Darkness Banner

In Star Wars Jedi Survivor, embracing the darkness is a plot point and not an optional choice. Learn if you have to embrace the darkness and the Dark Side ability gameplay effects!

Should You Embrace the Darkness?

Required on Nova Garon

Jedi Survivor - Embrace Darkness Story Prompt
The game requires you to embrace the darkness after Bode runs away when you first confront him on Nova Garon. You have no choice; you won't be able to progress through the game until you press the buttons for embracing the darkness.

The game does make it a choice when you die while fighting Bode on Tanalorr. At this point, it's not required, as you can simply not select it and choose to respawn instead.

Cal Embracing the Darkness is Canon

Jedi Survivor - Cal Dark Side
The story's canon goes with Cal facing the conflict of the dark side. The cutscenes and required prompts confirm this.

However, there's no need to worry of him succumbing to the darkness, since Merrin will be there to guide him into the light.

Game Will Be Very Hard if Not Used

Jedi Survivor - Nova Garon Stormtroopers
The Dark Side ability makes your Slow Time ability more powerful for the rest of the game after you unlock it. In addition to slowing time, your damage increases and your Force abilities become more powerful.

If you refuse to use the Dark Side ability after unlocking it, you'll effectively be letting go of your slow time ability, which makes game progression at this point harder if you were reliant on the ability. The game will throw hordes of enemies at you after you unlock the Dark Side, so not using it outside of the required prompts will be incredibly difficult.

Embrace the Darkness Gameplay Effects

Upgraded Version of the Slow Time Ability

Jedi Survivor - Dark Side Ability
Embracing the darkness is represented with the Slow Time ability getting replaced with the upgraded version, the Dark Side ability.

The Dark Side ability makes the screen glow red, has a higher duration of slowing time, and increases the damage of Cal's attacks.

The article says you have to embrace the darkness during the final battle with Bode. Unless mine bugged out this is incorrect. The first time I died it gave me the option, I didn’t do it and it changed to respawn. I was never prompted again and died several more times. I never pressed it the entire fight.
