Parrying is a fundamental combat mechanic of the game; it greatly decreases your opponent's stamina which gives you a window to strike them if their stamina is fully depleted.
Note that enemies can parry your attacks as well, so don't keep on swinging as it can take a toll on your stamina.
Some enemies can be hard to fight, but with knowledge of each enemy type's weaknesses, taking them down is easier than you could imagine. Know their weaknesses, attack patterns, and which force ability is most useful when fighting against them.
To learn more about each enemy type, scan their bodies after defeating them. This gives you information on how they fight and how to beat them.
This is perfect for normal enemies and mini-bosses that you encounter multiple times.
Some enemies glow red as you fight them; these enemies have unblockable attacks which means the only way to avoid their attacks is by dodging.
To damage unblockable enemies, you can use your Force abilities or your blaster to hit them safely.
Either in combat or exploration, Cal's force abilities are a fundamental part of the game's mechanics. Force abilities allow you to use an enemy as a shield with force pull or throw enemies off a ledge with force push.
Some items may be hidden by brittle walls or are in high places where a force ability is the only option to use.
Exploring areas can provide early upgrades or cosmetics or even dungeons that reward perks and skill points. Make sure to explore all areas before moving on to other planets and use fast travel to backtrack in areas that are previously unexplored.
Make sure to tame creatures to make them available as mounts, this way you can explore the planet faster and go to locations that are hard to reach.
The Grappling Hook is a nice addition to the game as it makes platforming much easier. This allows you to breeze through dungeons and timed trials that require a bit of platforming.
If you're stuck on a puzzle you can always press the hint prompt to make a conversation with BD-1, the conversation reveals hints on how to solve the puzzle so it's important to listen carefully.
