Here are all the Incense locations in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen (FRLG). See where to find each Incense and how to use them in this guide!
Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen has 2 types of Incense: the Lax Incense and the Sea Incense. Both of these can be found in the Lost Cave, which is located north of Five Island.
| 1 | Bring a Pokemon that can Surf outside of battle and jump into the sea directly west of the Pokemon Center on Five Island. |
|---|---|
| 2 | Keep going north through the Water Labyrinth, then head east once you approach Resort Gorgeous. |
| 3 | Continue surfing eastward past Resort Gorgeous, then go through the narrow passage between the rocks. It should lead you to a smaller island with the Lost Cave. |
| 4 | Once you're inside the cave, go down the ladder at the center to reach the first area of the Lost Cave. This is where you'll often get teleported back to after making a wrong turn in the cave. However, certain alternative routes can lead to rooms with items like the 2 Incense types! |
| Directions from the First Cave Area |
|---|
| East → South |
From the starting area of the Lost Cave, take the pathway leading east, then head south to reach a small room with the Lax Incense.

The Sea Incense will be a bit deeper into the Lost Cave. From the starting area, go east, north, south, and north to find the Sea Incense.
| Incense | Effect When Held |
|---|---|
| Lax Incense | Reduces the opponent's accuracy when targeting the holder. |
| Sea Incense | Boosts the power of the holder's Water-type moves. |
You can give an Incense to your Pokemon as a held item. While in battle, the Incense can provide supportive effects to the Pokemon that's holding it!
The Incense types in FireRed and LeafGreen provide identical effects to some other held items. Lax Incense has the same effect as Bright Powder, while Sea Incense works the same way as Mystic Water. Essentially, you can use the Incense as a duplicate of these held items!
| Incense | Required Egg | Baby Pokemon |
|---|---|---|
| Lax Incense | Wobbuffet Egg | Wynaut |
| Sea Incense | Marill Egg | Azurill LG Only |
The Lax Incense can also be used to hatch Wynaut from Wobbuffet eggs, while the Sea Incense can produce Azurill from Marill eggs. However, unless you've received Marill via trading, Azurill is a version-exclusive that can only be produced in the LeafGreen version.
Before leaving a pair of Pokemon to breed in the Pokemon Day Care on Four Island, you can give an Incense to one of the parents. Once they produce an egg, it will hatch the corresponding baby Pokemon instead of the regular offspring!
