Best Ways to Get 60 Pokemon

Getting 60 Pokemon Guide

Capturing 60 Pokemon and registering them in the Pokedex is an important milestone for the post game. Here are some of the best ways to get 60 Pokemon quickly.

Post Game Content and 100% Guide

Evolve Pokemon With Low Evolution Levels

Fast Evolution
Pokemon FRLG - Caterpie Caterpie Lv. 7
Pokemon FRLG - Metapod Metapod Lv. 10
Pokemon FRLG - Butterfree Butterfree
Slow Evolution
Pokemon FRLG - Dratini Dratini Lv. 30
Pokemon FRLG - Dragonair Dragonair Lv. 55
Pokemon FRLG - Dragonite Dragonite

One of the easiest ways to register 60 Pokemon is by evolving Pokemon with low evolution level requirements. Pokemon found in the earlier routes near Pallet Town, including ones that mainly have one evolution, are faster to evolve.

Capture Pokemon From the Safari Zone

Safari Zone Pokemon

Some Pokemon are primarily found in the Safari Zone. This area is dedicated for trainers to catch Pokemon, so try and get them, as well as some rare items, like a Lucky Egg, in the process!

Useful Tips to Get 60 Pokemon

Collect 60 Species, Not 60 Pokemon

Pokedex Tab
The Sixty Pokemon requirement involves catching sixty unique species of Pokemon to be registered in the Pokedex. Simply catching sixty Pokemon, such as getting multiple Weedles or Caterpies, does not add to the count.

To view this, go to the main menu and check the Pokedex. The count you want to look for is under Owned.

Encounters Are Not Counted

Pokemon Encountered

When you encounter a new Pokemon, make sure to capture it, so it counts as one registered Pokemon. Only Catches are considered for the 60 Pokemon, and not when you encounter them.

Rewards for Getting 60 Pokemon

Unlocks the National Dex

Upgraded Pokedex to National Pokedex

Reaching the 60th Pokemon milestone in your Pokedex lets you unlock the National Dex. This lets you discover new Pokemon from the Johto and Kanto regions, including the Legendary Dogs, Lugia and Ho-Oh, and Deoxys.
