You can talk to Daisy in Pallet Town to check your Pokemon's Friendship, also known as Happiness, with you in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen (FRLG). Learn how to check Friendship, how to raise Friendship, and why you should raise Friendship here!

You can talk to Daisy in Pallet Town after beating the Champion and entering the Hall of Fame to check your friendship with the first Pokemon in your party. Daisy can be found in the house directly north of Professor Oak's Laboratory.
| How to Increase Pokemon Friendship |

You can naturally increase your Friendship with your Pokemon by leveling them up. Simply use them in battles to let them level. However, Friendship decreases whenever they faint, so be careful when bringing them to high-level battles.

Using Vitamins on your Pokemon will also increase your Friendship with them. This is one of the easier ways of raising Friendship, but it can be quite costly because each Vitamin costs 9,800 in the Department Store in Celadon City.
If money is an issue for this method, you can try doing the Nugget Bridge Glitch or rechallenge trainers with the VS Seeker to earn money.

Holding the Soothe Bell increases the Friendship gained by the Pokemon. If you want to quickly raise the Friendship of a certain Pokemon, make sure to let it hold the Soothe Bell.
Soothe Bell Effect and How to Get
Pokemon caught with a Luxury Ball gain more Friendship compared to those caught with other Poke Balls. So if you're planning on getting a Pokemon whose evolution relies on Friendship, catch it with a Luxury Ball if possible.
Unfortunately, Luxury Balls can only be obtained as a random reward from Selphy in the Sevii Islands, making it impossible to get early game.
Letting Daisy groom your Pokemon when you talk to her also increases your Friendship with that Pokemon! She will occasionally offer to groom your Pokemon after you've taken several steps since the last time she's groomed them.

Some Pokemon can only evolve when their Friendship is high. It's usually recommended to catch these Pokemon with a Luxury Ball or to let them hold the Soothe Bell to speed up the process.
All Friendship (Happiness) Evolutions
The only way to get Togepi is by talking to the man at the end of the Water Labyrinth maze in the Sevii Islands while having maximum friendship with your Pokemon on the first party slot. The old man will give you Togepi's Egg upon seeing your friendship with your Pokemon.

Your fully evolved starter Pokemon can learn a special move upon talking to the woman inside the house on the cape of Two Island while having maximum Friendship. Venusaur learns Frenzy Plant, Blastoise learns Hydro Cannon, and Charizard learns Blast Burn.
Return is a unique move due to its damage scaling with the Pokemon's Friendship instead of having a regular modifier. If your Friendship is high, it can function as a great damaging Normal-type move.
