How to Farm Rare Candies

Use the Mail Glitch Method

The easiest way to farm rare candies is by duplicating them in your inventory using the Mail Glitch Method. Follow our guide below to see how to do it!

Mail Glitch Guide: How to Duplicate Items

Get Meowth for Pickup

Chance of an Item Picked Up 10% or 0.10
Chance of a Rare Candy 5% or 0.05
Total Chance 0.5% or 0.005

One of the best ways to farm for Rare Candies is by having Meowth in your party. Meowth's ability, Pickup, gives a random item occasionally after a battle if it's in the party, regardless of whether it participated or not.

Get six Meowths in your party and fight against weak enemies to farm items like Berries, Gold Nuggets, PP Up, TM10 Hidden Power, and Rare Candies.

Give Selphy Items in Resort Gorgeous

Once Selphy returns to Resort Gorgeous from the Lost Cave, she will be requesting various Pokemon for a random reward. One of these rewards is a Rare Candy, which you can farm infinitely.

Increases Pokemon Level By 1

Level Up Rare Candy

Rare Candies increase a Pokemon's level by 1. This can work on any existing level and is great for helping a Pokemon reach level 100.

Rare Candies, however, do not increase EVs of the Pokemon, so you'll lose out on training for these values if you solely use the item to level up the Pokemon.

EV Training Guide

Increases Friendship Slightly

Giving a Pokemon some Rare Candy increases the friendship slightly. This is important for some evolutions and how effective some moves and status conditions are on a Pokemon.

When to Use Rare Candies

When to Use Rare Candies

The Pokemon Has No EXP on the Bar

When to Use When Not to Use
Use Rare Candy Do Not Use Rare Candy

It is recommended to use a Rare Candy when the Pokemon's EXP bar is close to empty. A Rare Candy simply fills the EXP bar to full, so you'll waste the extra EXP if you use it when it's close to leveling up.

Instead, level it up first before using a Rare Candy to maximize its value!

A Pokemon is Close to Evolving

Pokemon Evolved Form
Pokemon FRLG - Charmeleon Charmeleon
(Lvl. 35)
Pokemon FRLG - Charizard Charizard
(Lvl. 36)

It's best to level up a Pokemon when it's near evolution. If you have, for example, a Charmeleon at Lvl. 35, you can use a Rare Candy to immediately jump to Lvl. 36 and evolve to Charizard, which can help out in certain sections of the game, such as in Gyms.

During the Mid to Late Game (Lv. 40+)

Pokemon become significantly harder to level up once they reach level 40 onwards. Save your Rare Candies before then, as you'll waste using them on weaker Pokemon.

How to Use Rare Candies
