Name Rater House Location

The Name Rater is located in Lavender Town, directly south of Mr. Fuji's house. The Name Rater rates how suitable a Pokemon's nickname is. Players can change the nickname of a Pokemon if the player is the original trainer.

Talk to the Name Rater

Talk to the Name Rater

Head inside the Name Rater's house in Lavender Town. Talk to the Name Rater and select a Pokemon. The Name Rater will judge the current nickname.

Enter a New Nickname

Enter a New Nickname

After he gives his rating, press Yes to enter a new nickname. If you press OK with no characters typed, the nickname will revert to the Pokemon's species name.

Can't Change Nickname If You're Not the Original Trainer

Take note that you cannot change a Pokemon's nickname if you are not its original trainer. Traded or gifted Pokemon won't match its original Trainer's name and ID number displayed on its profile.
