There are a total of 15 Egg Groups available in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen. Each Pokemon is categorized into at least one of the Egg Groups, allowing them to breed with Pokemon of the same group even if they're of a different species.
Do note that the Gen 3 games do not explicitly tell you what Egg Groups a Pokemon belongs to. Check out the Egg Groups above to learn more about your Pokemon!

Egg Groups determine which Pokemon can produce Eggs with each other, when breeding Pokemon at the Pokemon Day Care. You need two Pokemon of the same Egg Group, and of different genders, to produce an egg.
Exceptions to this rule are with the Ditto Group, who can reproduce with any Egg Group to make an Egg of that Egg Group, and the Undiscovered Group which cannot breed at all, even within the same Group.

Some Pokemon Species have multiple Egg Groups they belong to. As long as the two Parent Pokemon have a common Group, breeding can occur. Do take note that the Water Egg Groups are split into three and are not considered as a common group.
Take note that breeding only becomes available post-game after becoming the champion. You must have access to the Day Care in Four Island of the Sevii Islands.
