|---|---|---|
| National Pokedex | Get the Ruby and Sapphire | |
| PKMN League Rematch | Trainer Tower | |

The first step of FireRed and LeafGreen's Post Game is unlocking the National Pokedex. This is done by talking to Professor Oak's Lab in Pallet Town as long as you've satisfied all the conditions below:
Can You Complete the National Dex?
First off, you'd have to go through the Sevii Islands saga and go through the first three islands by talking to Bill in Cinnabar Island Pokemon Center.
| 1 | ![]() Talk to Celio on One Island. You may take the ferry from Vermilion City to do this. |
|---|---|
| 2 | ![]() Go to Mt. Ember, past Kindle Road east of One Island. Mt. Ember is due north of Kindle Road. |
| 3 | ![]() After entering, immediately head east to see two Team Rocket Grunts guarding a cave. They are talking about a Team Rocket Warehouse, and they are only recalling one password: "GOLDEEN need log." Defeat both Grunts to enter. |
| 4 | ![]() Follow the cave path and head down the ladder. If you see two forking paths, choose the path on the left with the single boulder and walls dripping with water. Go down the ladder at the end of the path. Note that you will need to have a Pokemon that knows HM Strength to progress. ► How to Get HM Strength |
| 5 | ![]() After going down, you'll see a sandy room different from the usual ground texture of the cave. Go to the southern part of the room and descend down a second ladder. The Ruby should be in that room. |
| 6 | ![]() Return to Celio in One Island and hand him the Ruby. Afterwards, he will then ask you get the Sapphire from another island. He will then hand you his own Rainbow Pass. |
| 7 | ![]() The Rainbow Pass allows you to go to four more islands in the Sevii Islands, something you can only do in the Post Game. |
| 1 | ![]() With Celio's Rainbow Pass in hand, go to Four Island first. In addition, your Rival will give you clues about Pokemon Eggs, alluding to the existence of a local Day Care on the island. Make sure to visit it and check it out! |
|---|---|
| 2 | ![]() To the left of a Day Care is an item blocked by a breakable rock that you can use HM Rock Smash to access. Afterwards, head east of Four Island to see a body of water that you can use HM Surf on. Grab the Stardust to the left and go up to see an opening to the Icefall Cave. |
| 3 | ![]() Once inside, enter the cave to the left of the waterfall to get items an the HM Waterfall. Inside, the game will make you solve ice-related puzzles. |
| 4 | ![]() For the first puzzle, just get the Ultra Ball and drop down on one of the ice floors to the north of the item. Choose the ice floor to the left. |
| 5 | ![]() Here you will drop into an area with an ice floor. Climb up the ladder and fall on the ice floor nearest the ladder. Slide down then right to get a Nevermeltice. |
| 6 | ![]() Go back and climb the same ladder again and drop onto the other ice floor farther from the ladder. Slide up, right, down, left, then down again to progress. Don't forget to get the Full Restore to the left before climbing the southern ladder! |
| 7 | ![]() The southern ladder will bring you back to the entrance of the cave again, where you'll see the HM Waterfall. Find a Pokemon that knows HM Waterfall and make it learn the HM. If you don't have any viable Pokemon, you can go to the Pokemon Center and return to this cave again. |
| 8 | ![]() Ride up the waterfall in Icefall Cave and find a ladder to the northwest. After going down the ladder, enter the cave to its right. |
| 9 | ![]() You'll see Elite Four Lorelei scolding a bunch of Team Rocket Grunts for taking some Pokemon from Four Island. Help her take them down! After the fight, one of the Grunts will tell you that the Pokemon are in the Rocket Warehouse in Five Island. Take note of this information. |
| 10 | ![]() Exit Icefall Cave by descending the waterfall and go to the Ferry Port of Four Island. From here, choose to go to Six Island first to get the Sapphire needed by Celio. |
| 1 | ![]() To get the other gemstone that Celio mentioned, you have to go to Six Island. Go to the Ferry Port and select that destination when prompted. Be sure to go into the Pokemon Center to have an interaction with your Rival. He will allude that you can get Pokemon from other regions in Six Island that will help with your National Dex! |
|---|---|
| 2 | ![]() From the Six Island proper, head east to arrive in Water Path. This route is full of strong trainers with an average Pokemon level of 45 and above. Be sure to be ready! |
| 3 | ![]() From here, head south until you arrive at a rocky area full of Trainers. Follow the road until you arrive in Ruin Valley Be sure to surf south before entering the rocky area to get a Dragon Scale. |
| 4 | ![]() Once in the Ruin Valley, explore the area and catch new Pokemon in the grass. You may also fight Trainers to get more EXP as well. |
| 5 | ![]() On the southwest part of Ruin Valley, look for an item blocked by two boulders that you can use HM Strength on. Open it up to get an HP Up. In addition, head north to the ledge to see an item near a Hiker Trainer. Open the three boulders blocking the way to get a Full Restore. |
| 6 | ![]() From there, continue southeast and follow the winding road until you get to a cave barred by a steel door. Interact with it and you'll see texts written in Braille that translates to the word "CUT". Use a Pokemon that knows the HM Cut to open the door to the Dotted Hole. |
| 7 | ![]() After entering the cave, drop down the hole to start your descent. From here, you will be greeted with a central stone that has more Braille texts that you have to read and follow. 1. UP - drop down the northern hole. 2. LEFT - drop down the left hole. 3. RIGHT - drop down the right hole. 4. DOWN - drop down the southern hole. |
| 8 | ![]() After going down all four correct holes, you will see the Sapphire in the middle of the room. A Trainer will then fall down the hole and take the Sapphire while saying that he will sell it to Team Rocket, telling you that you'll have to get it from the Warehouse if you want. He will then give you one of the passwords to the Team Rocket Warehouse, "Yes, nah, CHANSEY". In addition, you may also read the stone north of the room that reads: "Let the two glittering stones one in red one in blue connect the past. Two friends sharing power open a window to a new world that glows. The next world waits for you." |
| 9 | ![]() Climb up the ladder and exit the cave. Be sure to head southeast and hop off the ledge to get a Sun Stone after opening the way blocked by a bunch of boulders using HM Strength. Afterwards, fly back to the Six Island proper to ride the Ferry again to go to Five Island and infiltrate the Team Rocket Warehouse! |
| 1 | ![]() Upon arriving, head east until you reach Five Isle Meadow. This route is going to be full of Team Rocket Grunts, which means you are on the right track to the warehouse. To the right as soon as you enter the area, be sure to use HM Cut to open a path to a Max Potion. |
|---|---|
| 2 |
Continue following the path and use Surf on the eastern part of the path. Cross the body of water to get to Memorial Pillar. Continue following the grassy parts until you reach the southern tip and use HM Surf. Continue south to reach another island with a huge structure in the middle and a guy standing next to it. The structure is actually a tomb of the guy's Pokemon, and offering Lemonade while interacting with the tomb will make the guy reward you with TM42 Facade. |
| 3 | ![]() From there, backtrack your way back and cross the body of water again westward to return to Five Isle Meadow. Approach the structure in the middle to access the Team Rocket Warehouse. Get the PP Up near the warehouse by using Surf on the southern waters of this area. |
| 4 | ![]() Interact with the Warehouse Door, and the player will automatically enter the passwords you obtained from Mt. Ember and Dotted Hole. Enter the warehouse as soon as the door opens. |
| 5 | ![]() The Team Rocket warehouse is a labyrinth of zoom pads that you have to navigate to get through. Make sure to try and experiment with the pads to get important items like TM36 Sludge Bomb, and Up-Grade. The goal is to get to the northeastern part of the room, where you'll need to fight a Team Rocket Admin and the Scientist who stole the Sapphire. |
| 6 | ![]() After clearing the Team Rocket Warehouse, go back to One Island and bring the Sapphire to Celio. In the older games, giving both Ruby and Sapphire to Celio allows trading between Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. Unfortunately, there are no Nintendo Switch releases for those games, so the gemstones are mostly just to fulfill requirements for future quests. |
After taking on post-game Trainers and capturing more Pokemon, it's time to challenge the Elite Four and the Champion once again!
Players can return to Indigo Plateau to challenge the Elite Four and the Champion again, who are all equipped with National Dex Pokemon with competitive movesets and higher levels. Be sure to bring your A-Game again!
Alternatively, you can also challenge the Trainer Tower found in Seven Island, where it would pit you against Trainers that have the same Pokemon level as your highest level Pokemon. This is a lighter iteration of the Battle Tower where you can use recovery items during and after battles.
We generally don't suggest doing this though, as the rewards are abysmal for the effort you have to go through. Still, it's a good measure to test out the Pokemon teams and strategies you can employ in battles against Trainers of the same level as you.

First of all, try to complete all the Post-Game Activities noted in the section above. This will allow you to increase the locations you can access, allowing you to fill not just the Kanto Pokedex but also the National Dex.

En route to filling the National Pokedex, we suggest completing the Kanto Pokedex first. This is achievable, though you'd need to actually take time to trade Pokemon with friends who have the other version of the game.
FRLG Exclusives and Differences

Completing the National Pokedex is probably the final and most tedious task you'll have to do in Pokemon FRLG. Unfortunately, though, you won't be able to complete the National Dex in the Switch version of the game due to the unavailability of the Hoenn games, but do try your best to fill it up!
All Pokemon in FireRed and LeafGreen (FRLG)

To acquire all stars in your Trainer Card, you'd have to finish four activities:
A bunch of new Post Game Pokemon, both Legendary and non-Kantonian Pokemon, are available to capture in the Post Game of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen. Try your best to catch them all to complete the National Pokedex!

| IMPORTANT The bug where the roaming Legendaries could permanently disappear after using Roar has been fixed in the Nintendo Switch port of the game, so players no longer have to be wary when encountering them! |
|
The first post-game Pokemon you can get is one of the three Johto Legendary Beasts roaming around freely in Kanto. They will randomly spawn in grass around Kanto, and the beast that will appear in your save file depends on which starter you chose.
The Legendary Beasts will unlock after giving the Sapphire to Celio in One Island.
Though the Legendary Beasts essentially roam around random routes, you can force reset their locations by going in and out of cities. The easiest reset location is south of Pewter City, where you can go in and out of the city and running on the nearest patch of grass until the Legendary Pokemon shows up.
Make sure you bring a lot of Repels so weaker Pokemon won't jump in, and only the Level 49 roaming Pokemon will trigger a battle.

If you're a shiny hunter, take note that the shiny status of the roaming Legendary rolls after giving the Sapphire to Celio.
If you want to realistically hunt the Shiny versions of the Legendary Beasts, you have to save before giving the Sapphire to Celio and resetting from that point.

Mewtwo is probably one of the most popular Pokemon in the Pokemon universe, and can be fought and captured inside Cerulean Cave, north of Cerulean City. This cave is off-limits before becoming Pokemon Champion, and can only be accessed in the post-game.
Note that Mewtwo is a formidable Pokemon to fight, having a base level of 70 when you encounter it. Make sure to bring lots of Ultra Balls and bring Pokemon that can paralyze it to make catching easier!

In the Switch Version, the AuroraTicket will automatically appear in your Key Items after beating the Elite 4 and the Pokemon Champion. You'll be able to encounter different Deoxys forms based on what version you're playing: Attack Form for FireRed and Defense Form for LeafGreen.
To get to Birth Island, though, you'll have to get the Ruby first and give it to Celio to unlock the Birth Island in any Ferry Port.
| Step-by-Step Guide |
|---|
|
1. Interact with the triangle at the center. Approach it from the bottom. 2. Walk 4 tiles to the left, then interact from the top. 3. Walk 4 tiles to the right, then move 4 tiles up. Interact from the bottom. 4. Walk 4 tiles to the right, then move 4 tiles down. Interact from the top. 5. Walk 2 tiles up, then move 6 tiles left. Interact from the right. 6. Walk 4 tiles to the right. Interact from the left. 7. Walk 2 tiles to the left, then 2 tiles down. Interact from the top. 8. Walk 1 tile down, then 3 tiles to the left. Interact from the right. 9. Walk 6 tiles to the right. Interact from the left. 10. Walk 3 tiles to the right. Interact from the top. 11. Finally, walk 3 tiles up. Interact from the bottom to summon Deoxys. |
Once in Birth Island, you'll see a lone triangular object that will shift positions when interacted with. The goal here is to approach it using the shortest possible route until it glows bright red.
When successful, the triangle will break, and Deoxys will descend, triggering a battle immediately. Be sure to save before the final step.

Like AuroraTicket above, the MysticTicket that allows you to go to Navel Rock will be in your Key Items. To actually use it, you'll have to go to Celio and get the Ruby first to unlock Navel Rock as a destination in any Ferry Port.

Ho-Oh can be encountered by going left on the T-junction of the Navel Rock cave. This allows you to climb up to the top of Navel Rock via multiple ladders and encounter Ho-Oh.
The order in which you choose to encounter both Pokemon does not matter, as you can go to the other one afterwards and catch them both.

From the same T-junction of the Navel Rock cave, go right instead. This allows you to descend via multiple ladders to the basement of Navel Rock and encounter Lugia.
The order in which you choose to encounter both Pokemon does not matter, as you can go to the other one afterwards and catch them both.

After the entire Ruby and Sapphire saga that spanned across four islands, we finally arrive in Seven Island where you can get some rare Unown and more non-Kanto Pokemon. To access Seven Island, make sure to get Celio's Rainbow Pass from One Island then approach any Ferry Port to go to Seven Island.
| 1 | ![]() Upon arriving in Seven Island, make a U-Turn to the left until you see a brown bridge crossing the water. Continue south to reach the Canyon Entrance. Talk to the purple-haired Trainer on the bridge to have a Pokemon learn Swords Dance. |
|---|---|
| 2 | ![]() Continue down the path and fight Trainers along the way. Beware, though, as their Pokemon are at least Level 50! Follow the path and head southwest until you reach Sevault Canyon. |
| 3 | ![]() From here, just continue following the path and fight Trainers along the way. Make sure to pick up a Nugget south of the double Ace Trainer battle down the stairs, southeast of the cave entrance, next to the grassy patch on the left. |
| 4 | ![]() Enter the Tanoby Key cave found northeast of where you found the Nugget. Push the boulders and patch all five holes using HM Strength. |
| 4.1 | ![]() First, push the two boulders nearest the entrance into the two southern holes. |
| 4.2 | ![]() Then, push the top-middle boulder to the top-most hole. |
| 4.3 | ![]() Push the remaining two top-most boulders to the farthest east and west holes. |
| 4.4 | ![]() Lastly, push the two bottom boulders upwards and push them to the remaining holes. |
| 5 | ![]() From there, exit the cave and continue exploring outside. Continue south past the Nugget, and follow the path until you see a house with a purple roof. You may optionally interact with the man with a Chansey inside to heal your team. Make sure to pick up the Max Elixir in the southwestern part of the grassy patch. In addition, you should also pick up the item on the elevated area blocked by boulders and rocks to get a King's Rock. |
| 6 | ![]() Continue walking south of the house until you are blocked by a body of water. Use Surf and continue east until you see multiple mini-islands with ruin-like structures in them filled with wild Unown. Each chamber contains different forms of Unown. Try completing the entire alphabet with all the Unown here! |

To help you complete the National Pokedex, more non-Kanto Pokemon can spawn in the new Sevii Islands (Five, Six, and Seven Islands).
Do note that some of the Non-Kanto Pokemon here are unobtainable due to the unavailability of the Hoenn games for the Switch, but do try to catch as much as you can from the list!

The official FireRed and LeafGreen (FRLG) Post Game unlocks after defeating the Pokemon League, both the Elite Four and the Champion, for the first time and rolling the credits.
The game will teleport you back to Pallet Town, with Professor Oak giving you access to the National Dex afterwards, kicking off the Post Game of FRLG.
