The Nintendo Switch versions of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen are the same as the original releases on Game Boy Advance, with a few differences in quality of life (QoL) and how certain content is received.

The Nintendo Switch ports of FRLG strictly do not allow profanity. This applies to the protagonist, the rival, and Pokemon collected by the player.
If you try to use swear words as names, they will be filtered out, and a random default name will be registered instead.
| All Event Tickets | |
|---|---|
| Mystic Ticket | Aurora Ticket |
In the Nintendo Switch versions, the Event items, Mystic Ticket and Aurora Ticket, become available after completing the game. Once you enter the Hall of Fame, they appear in your inventory.
This differs from the original GBA releases, as these items were only available for a limited time and were mainly given out during offline events.

|---|---|
| HELP | Pressing L or R opens the Help screen for FAQs on the game. |
| LR | The L and R buttons can be used to switch between tabs in menus like your Bag. |
| L = A | The Joy Cons mirror each other. Either Joy Con can be used to move and interact with objects. |
| NSW Button Configuration | |
| Changes to the Button Layout | X = Start Y = Select |
There are a few control differences available in the Nintendo Switch ports. Some changes to support the Joy-Con controllers were made for FireRed and LeafGreen.
Furthermore, the buttons for X and Y mirror the Start and Select buttons, respectively. This lets you soft reset with the ABXY buttons alone.
The Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions will mainly run on local wireless connection. Unlike the Game Boy Advance devices which required Link Cables or Wireless Adapters, you can enjoy trading and battling against fellow trainers by being connected to the same network.
