How to Soft Reset

Press ABXY Simultaneously

AB plus + and -

You can soft reset the game by pressing ABXY or AB, +, and - simultaneously. Any of these inputs work the same way, although ABXY is a bit easier to do.

Take note that there is no auto-save in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, so you might lose progress by doing soft-resets without saving.

Soft Reset Uses

Shiny Hunting for Guaranteed Encounters

Soft Resetting makes shiny hunting significantly faster, as it helps you in repeating encounters with Pokemon. After saving in front of a guaranteed encounter, such as gifts or purchasable Pokemon, you can soft reset once you check of Pokemon is shiny or not.

Quick Restart of the Game

Soft Resets are quite useful when unintended bugs or glitches occur in game. Simply press ABXY to reset the game and reload to the latest save point.
