You can get Berries in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen by having a Pokemon with the Pickup ability or by examining dark patches of grass on the floor for hidden items. See how to get and use Berries here!

One way to consistently get Berries is through having a Pokemon with the Pickup Ability on your team. In FireRed and LeafGreen, this ability belongs to Meowth, and gives it a chance to obtain a Berry after combat if it is not currently holding an item.

Keep your eyes out for dark tufts of grass on the floor that are noticeably different from their surrounding tiles. These usually have hidden items in them, with Berries also being some of the things you can find!

A consistent source of these Dark Patches on the floor is in the Berry Forest on Three Island. The Berries in these spots have a chance to respawn after around 1,500 steps, allowing you to farm them in the area.

You can open your Bag and select a Berry to use it as if it were a consumable item. Berries that can be used in this manner have curative properties that can restore HP or remove Status Effects.

Alternatively, you can have Pokemon hold these curative Berries and automatically use them in battle. For example, a Pokemon holding a Chesto Berry will automatically use it if it falls asleep.

One more use for Berries is in the Berry Crush mini-game, which you can participate in by going to the 2nd Floor of the Pokemon Center and speaking with the receptionists here. Note that this requires the Powder Jar from Cerulean City to play.
Berry Crush Minigame Guide and Rewards

Participating in a game of Berry Crush will grant you Berry Powder, which you can then trade in to the man who gives you the Powder Jar for various Medicines and Vitamins!
