Here is a list of all status effects and conditions in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen (FRLG). See the effects of each status problem, how to cure status effects, and what abilities can prevent status effects in this guide!

Main Status Effects and Conditions

Main Status Effects
Poison Paralysis Burn
Sleep Freeze

Poison

The Poison status reduces a Pokemon's HP at the end of every turn. The amount of HP reduction is 1/8 of the Pokemon's maximum HP.

If the status wasn't cured in battle, the poisoned Pokemon will still have its Poison condition after the battle ends. In this case, they will continue to lose their HP as you walk.

How to Cure Poison

Items Antidote
Pecha Berry
Moves Refresh
Heals poisoning, paralysis, or a burn.

Poison can be cured by giving an Antidote or Pecha Berry to a Pokemon. While a posioned Pokemon is holding a Pecha Berry in battle, it will consume it to recover from the status on its own.

Alternatively, Pokemon that have Refresh can use the move to cure themselves from poisoning.

Other Factors that Affect Poison

Poison and Steel-type Pokemon are generally immune from being poisoned. The following Abilities and Moves also affect the Poison status condition.

Ability Description
Immunity The immune system of the Pokémon prevents it from getting poisoned.
Move Description
Facade Boosts ATTACK when burned, paralyzed, or poisoned.

Paralysis

Paralyzed Pokemon have significantly reduced Speed and a 25% chance of being unable to perform a move.

How to Cure Paralysis

Items Paralyze Heal
Cheri Berry
Moves Refresh
Heals poisoning, paralysis, or a burn.

Paralysis can be cured with Paralyze Heal or Cheri Berry. Paralyzed Pokemon that are holding a Cheri Berry in battle will consume it to recover from the status on its own.

Alternatively, Pokemon that have Refresh can use the move to cure themselves from paralysis.

Other Factors that Affect Paralysis

Electric-type Pokemon are immune to the Paralysis status. The following Abilities and Moves also affect the Paralysis status condition.

Ability Description
Limber Its limber body protects the Pokémon from paralysis.
Move Description
Facade Boosts ATTACK when burned, paralyzed, or poisoned.

Burn

The Burn status makes affected Pokemon lose 1/8 of its maximum HP at the end of every turn. While burned, the Pokemon's Attack stat is also reduced.

How to Cure Burn

Items Burn Heal
Rawst Berry
Moves Refresh
Heals poisoning, paralysis, or a burn.

Burned Pokemon can be cured with Burn Heal or Rawst Berry. Pokemon that are holding a Rawst Berry in battle will consume it to recover from Burn on its own.

Alternatively, Pokemon that have Refresh can use the move to cure themselves from Burns.

Other Factors that Affect Burn

Fire-type Pokemon are immune to the burn status condition. Below are other Abilities and Moves that affect Burn:

Ability Description
Water Veil The Pokémon is covered with a water veil, which prevents the Pokémon from getting a burn.
Move Description
Facade Boosts ATTACK when burned, paralyzed, or poisoned.

Sleep

The sleep condition causes Pokemon to be unable to move until they wake up again. If the status isn't cured with an item, the sleeping Pokemon can wake up on its own within 2-5 turns.

How to Cure Sleep

Items That Cure Sleep
Awakening Blue Flute Chesto Berry

You can wait for the Pokemon to recover from Sleep on its own by spending turns in battle until it wakes up. However, to quickly cure Sleep, you can use an Awakening or a Blue Flute. A Pokemon that's holding a Chesto Berry during battle can also recover from Sleep on its own.

Other Factors that Affect Sleep

Below are other Abilities and Moves that affect the Sleep status condition:

Ability Description
Early Bird The Pokémon awakens twice as fast as other Pokémon from sleep.
Insomnia The Pokémon is suffering from insomnia and cannot fall asleep.
Vital Spirit The Pokémon is full of vitality, and that prevents it from falling asleep.
Move Description
Uproar User cannot sleep for 2-5 turns.

Freeze

A frozen Pokemon will be unable to move until they thaw out of the freeze. It will take a random amount of turns for the Pokemon to get out of being frozen. However, there is a 20% chance of being thawed out per turn.

How to Cure Freeze

Aspear Berry
Moves Fire-Type Moves (e.g.)
Fire Blast: A fiery blast that scorches all. May cause a burn.
Flame Wheel: A fiery charge attack that may inflict a burn.
Sacred Fire: A mystical fire attack that may inflict a burn.

You can spend turns in battle and wait until your frozen Pokemon thaws out. Ice Heal and Aspear Berry can also be used to remove the Freeze status. In addition, hitting a frozen Pokemon with a Fire-type attack will also remove Freeze.

Other Factors that Affect Freeze

Ice-type Pokemon can't be frozen. Freeze also can't be inflicted on Pokemon when Harsh Sunlight is present. Below are other Abilities and Moves that affect the Freeze status condition:

Infatuation ends when either the infatuated Pokemon or the Pokemon it's infatuated with is switched out of battle. Pokemon with the Oblivious Ability are immune to Infatuation. Items like the Red Flute and Mental Herb can also help a Pokemon recover from Infatuation.

Flinch

When a Pokemon flinches, it doesn't attack during that turn. Flinch doesn't have any remedies, but it's easily mitigated since it only lasts for one turn.

However, Flinch cannot be inflicted on the first Pokemon that moves in a turn. Pokemon that have the Inner Focus ability are also immune from flinching.

Bind and Trap

When a move causes a Pokemon to be bound or trapped, the Pokemon can't be switched out for up to 5 turns. If it comes from a wild encounter, you are unable to flee. The Pokemon also takes damage at the end of every turn.

However, Pokemon are still able to perform moves normally even while bound or trapped.

How to Cure Bind and Trap

Items Fluffy Tail
