Pokerus cannot be spread in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen (FRLG). Learn more about Pokerus and whether you can get the virus in this guide.
List of Contents
In Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, it is impossible to find a wild Pokemon with the virus. Pokerus can only be spread to other Pokemon on Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald and other succeeding Pokemon games until Generation 8.
An infected Pokemon from Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald that's been traded into FireRed and LeafGreen can exist with the virus. However, Pokerus cannot spread to other Pokemon since the game has no in-game clock system. With this, it's impossible to get Pokerus in FireRed and LeafGreen through normal means.
Pokerus is a virus that can infect a Pokemon. While it may sound concerning, Pokerus is actually harmless and can double the EVs gained from battle.
In other Pokemon games, there is a rare chance to run into a wild Pokemon with Pokerus. Infected Pokemon can be identified by the PKRS displayed in their status condition once caught.
Since Pokerus doesn't exist normally in FireRed and Leafgreen, infected Pokemon that have been traded in will indefinitely keep the virus until it's transferred back to a Hoenn-based game.
In succeeding Pokemon titles, Pokerus also has a chance to spread to adjacent Pokemon in the party. You can attack the infected wild Pokemon with a move that will make contact with it to catch the virus. After your Pokemon catches the virus, place it in either Slot 3 or 4 of the party for a chance to spread it to the entire team.
