List of Contents
There are a total of 10 Legendaries you can get in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, with a single playthrough getting you a max of 8, exclusive of trading.
Most of them are considered post-game content, so you can't get some of these Pokemon while playing through the story!
Mewtwo
|
Mewtwo is available to capture in Cerulean Cave after becoming the Pokemon Champion in the Kanto region.
All three legendary birds in the Kanto region can be captured in one single playthrough. You can get all three Legendary Birds before completing the game!
Moltres
|
After obtaining the Volcanobadge from Blaine in Cinnabar Island, head to Mt. Ember and climb the mountain. You can challenge Moltres at the summit. As this is a difficult battle, make sure to save before interacting with it!
Articuno
|
Articuno can be found in the depths of Seafoam Islands by solving the boulder puzzle and reaching the very bottom. Save before interacting with Articuno in case you defeat it by accident!
Zapdos
|
Zapdos is located in the Power Plant just south of the Pokemon Center in Route 10. Simply use Surf north of the Pokemon Center and swim downwards to arrive at the area.

One of the three legendary dogs of Kanto will appear depending on the starter you chose. You can encounter them after giving Celio the Ruby and Sapphire items in One Island. Take note that you cannot get all three in a playthrough without trading.
If you're aiming to encounter their Shiny Variants, make sure to save before giving Celio the items!
There are 3 Legendaries that you can only get through event items in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen. Lugia and Ho-Oh can be obtained through the Mystic Ticket item, while Deoxys can be encountered with the Aurora Ticket.
Lugia

Lugia is found in Navel Rock after unlocking it with the Mystic Ticket item and have access to the rest of the Sevii Islands.
Take the path going to the right once you're in Navel Rock and head down to encounter Lugia. Make sure to save before doing so!
Ho-Oh
|
Similar to Lugia, Ho-Oh is found in Navel Rock after unlocking it with the Mystic Ticket item and have access to the rest of the Sevii Islands.
Take the path going to the left in Navel Rock and head upwards to encounter Ho-Oh. Save upon entering the summit, as exploring this area will immediately trigger the fight with Ho-Oh.

(LeafGreen) |
Deoxys is available in Birth Island once you unlock the special area with the Aurora Ticket received after completing the game. Solve the Triangle Puzzle by clicking on the triangles in succession to summon Deoxys.
Deoxys' form is locked to the version you have on the Switch. If you have FireRed, you can only have Deoxys (Attack Form). Likewise, LeafGreen has Deoxys (Defense Form) as its exclusive form. Trading a Deoxys in a different form is also not possible, as doing so will just convert it into the version's exclusive form.
Mew
|
There is no way to obtain Mew in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen for the Nintendo Switch.
In the original releases of the game for the GameBoy Advance (GBA), Mew can only be obtained by trading with an Emerald player who got the Pokemon in Faraway Island.
