How to Go Fishing

Use the Fishing Rod and Wait for a Bite

To go fishing, you'll need to stand in front of a body of water. Then, open your Bag and select the Key Items tab. Go down the list until you find your chosen fishing rod, select it, and hit Use to cast your fishing line.

Simply wait for the dots on the screen to pass and see if you get a bite. You might need to try a few times before you succeed, but once a Pokemon bites onto your line, you'll be able to battle and capture it!

Better Rods Get Higher Level Pokemon

Better quality fishing rods will allow you to catch higher level Pokemon. From worst to best quality, the fising rods you can get are the Old Rod, Good Rod, and Super Rod.

The Old Rod will mostly let you catch low-level Pokemon like Magikarp. Meanwhile, the Good Rod will allow you to capture more types of common Pokemon. Once you get a Super Rod, you'll be able to attract rarer and higher-level Pokemon!
