A total of 47 version-exclusive Pokemon are present in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen. There are 23 FireRed-exclusives and 24 LeafGreen-exclusives. Both versions have an equal amount of Gen 1 and Gen 2 Pokemon, but LeafGreen has 1 extra Gen 3 Pokemon.

Pokemon LeafGreen has an advantage over FireRed with its access to Starmie. Starmie is an easy to acquire Pokemon with a good offensive stat spread and a large move pool, with access to attacks from various types like Surf, Psychic, Ice Beam, and Thunderbolt.
From a play-through perspective, having versatile Pokemon is a big advantage due to type weaknesses allowing for easier battles overall.
