There are 13 version-exclusive Gen. 1 Pokemon in LeafGreen. Similar to FireRed, most of these Pokemon are available early in the game, with the exception of Magmar and Pinsir.
A total of 26 version-exclusive Gen 1 Pokemon are present in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen.

Pokemon LeafGreen has an advantage over FireRed with its access to Starmie. Starmie is an easy to acquire Pokemon with a good offensive stat spread and a large move pool, with access to attacks from various types like Surf, Psychic, Ice Beam, and Thunderbolt.
From a play-through perspective, having versatile Pokemon is a big advantage due to type weaknesses allowing for easier battles overall.
