You can choose between the Dome Fossil and the Helix Fossil in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen (FRLG). Learn which fossil you should choose, what Pokemon the fossils turn into, and if you can get both fossils here!

The Helix Fossil turns into Omanyte and the Dome Fossil turns into Kabuto. They are both Rock-Water type Pokemon and evolve into Omastar and Kabutops once they reach level 40, respectively.
If you want the fossil Pokemon to cover your Water-type moves, then we recommend picking the Helix Fossil. Omastar's Sp. Atk stat is high and synergizes well with Water-type moves being Special attack moves.
It can also learn Ice-type moves such as Ice Beam and Blizzard via TMs, more powerful Special type moves, as a counter to Grass-type Pokemon.
On the other hand, if you want the fossil Pokemon to cover your Rock-type moves, then you'll want to pick the Dome Fossil. Kabutops's high Attack stat synergizes well with Rock-type moves being Physical attack moves.
It can also learn Aerial Ace, a strong Flying-type move, to counter Grass-type Pokemon.
You will be forced to choose between the Helix and Dome fossils near the exit of Mt. Moon after battling Super Nerd Miguel. You can enter Mt. Moon from Route 4, east of Pewter City.
Unfortunately, you can only get one fossil. The other fossil will be quickly retrieved by the Super Nerd you just defeated and will no longer be available in the game.
The only way to get the Fossil Pokemon you missed out on is to trade with other players.
To restore the fossil, you will need to talk to the scientist in the Pokemon Lab next to the Pokemon Center in Cinnabar Island. The scientist can be found in the Experiment Lab, the eastmost room in the Pokemon Lab.
