Tristan and Marisol are the best companions in Outer Worlds 2. Together on your team, they can provide both great tanking capabilities and powerful combat support.
Tristan |
|
|---|
Tristan is the best companion thanks to his tanking capabilities. He has high survivability from his base stats alone, has powerful melee attacks that can be further improved with perks and upgrades, and his crowd control capabilities are second to none.
His biggest downside, however, is that he lacks ranged attack options. Even if his hammer doubles as a grenade launcher, he has no means of consistently dealing damage from afar.
Marisol |
|
|---|
Marisol is the best support companion in the game, mostly because of her powerful Companion Ability that allows her to lock opponents in place and make all attacks on them a Critical Hit. Additionally, she can easily apply DoTs on enemies, as well as improve your Energy gain.
The downside to this is that her elemental pistol has low base damage. Not only that, but she has little to no survivability options, so you will need to actively keep her alive.
Niles |
|
|---|
Niles is one of the more balanced companions, capable of being either a tank or a stealth support. He can draw enemy fire as a tank or help you disappear as a stealth support. He is also a walking workbench, allowing you to craft, mod, and upgrade on the go.
Sadly, a lot of his damage comes from his Companion Ability and DoT thanks to his weapon being a revolver.
Inez |
|
|---|
Inez is a versatile companion that can serve as either a support or DPS character based on what graft you put on her. Not only that, but since her default weapon is an Assault Rifle, she is capable of dishing out good damage even without her Companion Ability.
Although she is versatile later on, Inez starts off without a companion ability , and this is the case until you finish her first companion quest Better than Nature. Additionally, once you do attach a graft on her, you are stuck with that choice for the rest of the game.
Aza |
|
|---|
Aza is a powerful close-range companion, dealing great damage output thanks to her knife, as well as her strong Companion Ability that she can use up to twice in a row.
Her biggest flaw, however, is that she has no ranged capabilities, as even her Companion Ability has the range of a shotgun at best. Additionally, having a tank in your team is required as her abilities are better if someone else is pulling aggro.
VALERIE |
|
|---|
VALERIE has great support capabilities, be it towards allies or enemies. She has multiple healing and buffing options, and can easily apply DoT effects on enemies. This is balanced by her low overall damage, as well as low survivability that relies heavily on her perks and upgrades.

| General Team | ||

| Any Build | Tristan |
Inez |
The General Team can work with any build thanks to its balance. Tristan will serve as the tank, soaking damage and pulling aggro toward himself. Inez can either be the support if you decide to go for damage, or the DPS if you want to play as support.
| Loud Team | ||
|---|---|---|
| Gunslinger Builds | Niles |
Tristan |
This team does not care about stealth and will go into battle guns blazing. Tristan and Niles can both tank damage and taunt enemies, allowing you to pick enemies off with ease. Additionally, they both have decent damage outputs, so fights will be a breeze.
| Stealth Team | ||
|---|---|---|
| Stealth Builds | Niles |
Aza |
The Stealth team, as the name implies, focuses on keeping quiet and taking enemies down quietly, with Aza buffing your Sneak attack damage and Niles decreasing the detection rate. If things go south, Niles can draw enemy fire as the tank, while you and Aza take care of any stragglers with ease.
| Science Team | ||
|---|---|---|
| Science Builds | Marisol |
VALERIE |
The Science team focuses on spamming Companion Abilities, Gadgets, and DoTs. Marisol's Perks can potentially let her spam her Companion Ability and charge your Gadgets. VALERIE, on the other hand, can easily apply Damage over Time effects on enemies, as well as serve as the team's healer.
| Undying Team | ||
|---|---|---|
| Any Build | VALERIE |
Inez |
The Undying Team focuses on keeping the entire team alive. VALERIE can provide either healing or buff defenses, while Inez will provide even more healing. Partnered with Heavy Armor, a strong Inhaler, and the correct perks, you will become unstoppable on the battlefield.
