This guide will tell you about how to get the best start in Outer Worlds 2. Learn about what build to use, what quests to do, and what equipment to look out for!
When picking the best Traits, make sure to select Brilliant and Nimble for the positive traits, as well as Sickly for the negative trait.
Brilliant allows you to Specialize in three skills, giving you a good head start in the game. Nimble, on the other hand, increases your Crouch and Combat Sprint Speed, making it great for all kinds of builds. You can swap Nimble out for Innovative if you'd like, as that is another strong Trait.
For the negative traits, Sickly is your best choice, as although the reduced Base Health and Toxicity Crash Threshold seem detrimental, it is possible to offset it using Perks, Flaws, and equipment.
Since you will be taking Brilliant, you can select three skills to specialize in. At the start of the game, choose to specialize in Speech, Lockpick, and Hack. These three skills are bypass skills that give you access to special dialogue options, additional info, and alternate routes.
Take these three skills early, then level other skills down the line based on what build you want to make.
| Perk | Effect |
|---|---|
|
|
・Allows you to pickpocket NPCs |
|
|
・Allows you to pick up bonus bits when looting containers |
The Perks listed above are Perks that are useful in any build, giving you the freedom to pick more specialized perks once you decide on a build.
The best background to make the most out of the early game is Professor. Professors have access to dialogue options that not only provide lore to the player, but can also provide bypass options to the player.

| Kaur's Korroder | Murder's Best Friend | Chainspark Cannon |
| Cleo's The Hunt | Wham-Bam! | Death Sentence |
These are some of the weapons that you can easily get during the early game that can potentially carry you not just through the mid-game, but even until the end-game. These weapons come from a variety of sources, including quest rewards, locked containers, or even as enemy drops.
Alternatively, you can also use the non-unique versions of each weapon (like the Shock Machine Gun instead of the Chainspark Cannon) as they are still strong, especially when modded.

These are some of the armors that you can easily get during the early game that can help keep you alive as you explore. You can obtain these armors the same way you can the unique weapons listed above.
If you do not have any of the armor listed above, you can choose to run the base armors instead, as they are still strong when modded.

Advanced Decryption Keys are rare consumables that you can use to unlock High Security Lockboxes, which can reward you with Unique Weapons and Armor.
You can find these as rewards from quests, as well as scattered in the overworld.

Wherever you go in the game, make sure to loot anything and everything. Since the game does not have an encumbrance system, you can stock up on all of the items that you can find.

A lot of the important consumables in the game, such as Inhaler Charges or Ammo, can be crafted on Workbenches.
Whenever you have the materials, make sure to craft important consumables, as you will definitely need them during your travels.
Exploring each area completely not only allows you to find loot or quests, but also unlock Fast Travel locations. This will make exploration and traversal easier, allowing you to cut down travel time down the line.

Because the prologue area becomes inaccessible after the prologue, make sure to gather all of the missables, including a Card in a locker.

During the prologue, you will be asked to pick between Security Ops or Central Dispatch. If you plan to become a Stealth-focused player, go to Security Ops. Otherwise, choose to go to Central Dispatch.
Going to Security Ops rewards you with a Sentry Blade, while going through Central Dispatch gives you a Stun Baton.

Upon arriving in Paradise Island, make sure to unlock the double jump boots as fast as possible. The double jump boots, also known as the P.A.L.E., is a gadget you can find while doing the side quest A Final Death for Gravity.

After arriving in Fairfield and siding with either Kaur or Milverstreet, you will be sent to the Ministry of Accuracy, where you will meet Inez. You will then get the opportunity to recruit her after returning to Fairfiled.
Make sure to recruit Inez before doing anything else, as failing to do so can permanently lock her out as a companion.
Better than Nature Walkthrough

Going to Dorado will allow you to recruit Tristan, Marisol, and Aza. Make sure to recruit them as soon as you can, as they will be helpful in your journey.
You can start Tristan's recruitment process in the Free Market Station via the quest Arbitrary Measures. Aza, on the other hand, can be rescued in the Decommissioned Autonomous Extractorium. Finally, you will run into Marisol while going through the quest On the Trail of the Traitor. Make sure you don't kill her, as this makes it impossible to recruit her.

The N-Ray Scanner is a powerful Gadget that lets you see things that are normally invisible. This includes invisible enemies, as well as hidden wiring that you can use to deduce puzzles.
Additionally, the N-Ray Scanner lets you see enemies through walls, and can be upgraded using some of Marisol's perks.
