Unlock Pickpocket Perk

Outer Worlds 2 Pickpocketing

Unlike recent Obisidian RPGs, you need to unlock the Pickpocket perk first before you can steal from NPCs in The Outer Worlds 2.

You’ll need at least Lockpick Level 1 and 1 Perk Point to get the Pickpocket perk. Once unlocked, pickpocketing can be activated by crouching up to an unaware human and having enough Lockpick skill.

To steal, loot an item that belongs to someone else. This is indicated by the red text prompt that appears when you hover over the item while trespassing in another person’s home or within faction territory.

If you’re caught stealing or pickpocketing in a faction’s territory, your reputation with that faction will drop. This can lock you out of certain opportunities, and if your reputation gets too low, they may even place a bounty on you.

If you’re caught stealing or pickpocketing in someone else’s home, nearby NPCs may also start attacking you. In faction territories, the more you steal or cause chaos, a bounty will eventually be put on you and members of that faction will start hunting you until your bounty is paid.
