Mysteries of the Mental Modulators only starts when you complete Now Hiring: Invaluable Disposable Agent, the previous faction quest.

We recommend finishing Mysteries of the Mental Modulators alongside the Escape From Placid Waters side quest. Both quests are completed by doing the objectives in the same location, saving you time and effort.

| 1 | ![]() Head over to the Placid Waters Wellnitarium southwest of Praetor. When you first enter the Wellnitarium, a mist will welcome you, giving you the Mentally Refreshed perk. |
| 2 | ![]() After passing through the mist, talk to Designated Subject Greeter Yackley. He will then instruct you take an evaluation to be supervised by the Intake Evaluation Mech found on the window beside him. |
| 3 | ![]() Start the evaluation by talking to the Intake Evaluation Mech. You can answer the questions by choosing any dialogue as the passing score is zero (0). |

| 1 | After exiting the elevator, enter the room to your right. Keep going right until you see a classroom setup. Once you're here, enter the door on the far left. |
| 2 | Here, you can find a loose vent that you can open. Disable the electricy by shutting down its power and enter the medicament storage. |

To obtain the Lathe of Particularity Schematics, you'll have to go through Head Refresher Gould. Gould is not hostile at first and would rather challenge you to a debate. However, winning the debate requires a number of skills that may not be available to your build.

| 1 | To avoid encountering multiple enemies, go back to the classroom and exit to the right. Sneak your way behind the guard to access the elevator and choose Observational Oversight (3rd floor). |
| 2 | ![]() Exit the elevator, head left and enter the room ahead where Head Refresher Gould is. Before you talk to him, make sure to activate the Gas Dispersement Controls first. This can be done by passing any of the three skill checks:

| 3 | ![]() Head down and talk to Head Refresher Gould, where he'll challenge you into a debate. Take note that at least Science 7 and Medical 7 is required to win the debate. We recommend following these dialogue options to win:
*If you have Speech 11, you can choose "They greatly reward skill, talent, and innovative ideas. You'd go far over there, surely." to get the option to send Head Refresher Gould to Auntie's Choice. Take note that losing the debate results in combat as he'll alert the guards in the area. |
| 4 | ![]() Now that Head Refresher Gould is dealt with, you can now enter his quarters. Look at the painting on the wall on the right side of the room to obtain the Lathe of Particularity Schematics, which adds to the completion progress of the quest. You can also obtain the Phrenometric Peak Abradement Cap inside which is a unique helmet. The safe inside Gould's room can be opened by obtaining his safe key either by killing him or pickpocketing him (requires Pickpocket perk). |

If you don't have the appropriate skills to win the debate against Head Refresher Gould, killing him is the only alternative. Take note that this action alerts all enemies in the area with one appearing from the room across Gould.
Additionally, killing Gould will affect the bonus that you receive from the two Vice Presidents, Pendegrass III and Ursula Ormsby.

| 1 | ![]() The Placid Waters Wellnitarium hides a very grim secret, and it can be found in the Special Ministrations floor. To enter this floor, you have to obtain the Full-Privilege Priority Pass. Start in the room where you debated (or killed) Head Refresher Gould. Take note that the area is full of Protectorate guards. |
| 2 | ![]() Leave the room and walk straight down the hallway. Keep walking ahead, pass the two doors, until you reach the end of this corridor. |
| 3 | Then, take a sharp turn right and look for the doorway that leads to a small control room. |

| 1 | ![]() Once you arrive at the Special Ministrations floor, be aware that there is a Protectorate soldier standing guard right outside the elevator, take him out or sneak pass him. |
| 2 | ![]() On top of the counter in this room is a terminal, access this terminal and read all of its contents. The information here can be used later on against Consul Emery Thoreau to get the Best Ending for the game. |
| 3 | ![]() Once done, enter the door ahead. You will be greeted by Gustav Feld, the Sovereign's Personal Attendant and Sovereign Henry Varick himself, vegetative and mentally refreshed. If you bring Tristan with you, he will be enraged to see his Sovereign in this state. Speak with him back at the Incognito later for additional dialogue. |

The information you learned in the terminal and about the Sovereign can affect one of the game's Endings. Once you're done exploring the area, head back up the Observational Oversight floor. |

Return to the Head Office Tower in ACS Undisputed Claim and discuss your findings with Pendegrass III and Ursula Ormsby. Make sure to mention all your findings during the conversation to receive the most amount of rewards.
The ACS Undisputed Claim Map and Guide

If you win the debate against Head Refresher Gould, you'll obtain the Lathe of Particularity Schematics without entering into combat. Additionally, if you win the debate convincingly, you'll have the option to send him to Auntie's Choice or to make him use the lathe himself.

If your build doesn't cater to the required skill to win the debate (Science 7 and Medical 7), killing Head Refresher Gould is your only option. However, we recommend avoiding this option as the area contains a lot of enemies and this decision affects the rewards of the quest.

You left out you can pickpocket the dr for his key and go to the third floor where the sovereign is, the computer there also has additional bonus data and the chaperone has a unique inhaler you can pickpocket, probably you can kill him as well with no risk. And when you take the job, both VPs tell you in advance you need oratory skills to succeed.
