During The Saboteur of Paradise main quest, you'll have the option to get additional help when infiltrating the Vox Relay. In Fairfield, speak to Minister Milverstreet, but refuse his request before talking to Acquisitions Officer Kaur. Accept the job she offers to trigger the quest.
Note: Accepting this quest will lock you out of Minister Milverstreet's questline. Once you opt to help Kaur, you will no longer be able to do the A Refreshing Bit of News quest (and its follow-up quest).

| How to Enter the ARC | ||
|---|---|---|
| Access Card | Skill Checks | Violence* |
There are three ways to enter the Automech Repair Center to begin your sabotage: Using an Access Card, passing skill checks, or simply shooting your way in.
We do not recommend taking the violent route, as it wastes your resources and locks you out of unique quests, shops, and other interactions with the unique NPCs in the area.
| How to to Get the ARC Access Pass | |
|---|---|
| 1 | ![]() Head to the Ministry of Accuracy located on the southwestern coast of Paradise Island. |
| 2 | ![]() Outside the building will be a few Raptidons to take care of. Head inside and you will meet Inez, a potential Companion. ▶︎ Inez Companion Guide: How to Recruit |
| 3 | ![]() Head through the only unsealed door behind Inez (the other door in the room is locked) and clear out the Raptidons inside. |
| 4 | ![]() The Terminal containing the Access Pass is located on the second floor. Use the ladder on the wall near the door you entered from to climb onto the rafters. Then, jump across to reach the Terminal. Access it and print the ARC Pass. |
| 5 | ![]() Travel east to the ARC and present the pass to the guards stationed at the entrance, and you will be let through with no issue. |
![]() |
|
| Sub-Mechanist Cade Tierney Skill Checks | |
|---|---|
| You can get through with an Engineering check at Lvl 2 followed by a Speech check of Lvl 3. | |
| With Engineering at level 3, you can immediately be let through. | |
With enough points in Engineering, you can get through the lookout, Cade Tierney, using skill checks. At Engineering Level 2, Cade will still be suspicious, requiring a follow-up Speech Level 3 check to convince him. However, at Engineering Level 3, he can automatically let you pass.

You can force your way in and eliminate everyone inside. Doing this will lock you out of the side quests you could get from this area, as well as unique NPC interactions and shops. Be sure you are well-equipped if you choose this approach, since Protectorate soldiers are tough opponents.
Note: Entering this way lets you skip the steps involving Delphinia Bryant (since she would be dead), so you can jump straight to the section that explains how to continue by tapping the button below.
After entering the ARC, the area you must enter to complete the sabotage is heavily contaminated with Zyranium, requiring a special gadget to pass through safely.
| Step-by-step Walkthrough | |
|---|---|
| 1 | ![]() After entering peacefully, speak to Marshal Donelson, found either in his office or talking to the Chief Mechanist outside. Agree to help with the Zyranium problem, and he will direct you to Dr. Delphinia Bryant who is developing a gas shield. This starts a new side quest you can complete to get the Zyranium Gas Shield. ▶︎ An Aegis Against Miasma Walkthrough |
| 2 | ![]() After speaking to Donelson, head to Delphinia who is in the base as well. Agree to help her with the experimental gadget and she will ask you to collect Zyranium Gas. She then hands you a Zyranium Collector item. |
| 3 | ![]() Head to the contaminated building’s exterior wall and find the Zyranium gas leaking out. Step into the gas cloud to safely collect the Zyranium when the prompt appears. |
| 4 | ![]() Return to Delphinia with the gas sample to continue. |
| How to Obtain a Catalytic Amplifier | ||
|---|---|---|
| Take It From the Destroyed Dragoon | Convince Chief Mechanist Woodrow to Give You One | Use a Holo-Emitter Instead |
Delphinia will then need you to collect a Catalytic Amplifier that is needed to complete the Gadget, and there are three methods of obtaining it. Either by taking one from a missing dragoon west of the base, convincing Chief Mechanist Woodrow to give up his, or taking Fairfield's advertisement holo-emitter.
| Step-by-step Walkthrough | |
|---|---|
| 1 | ![]() Head west of the ARC towards the missing Dragoon marker. |
| 2 | ![]() The disabled Dragoon will have a few Crabbles defending it. Deal with them and interact with the fallen mech on the ground. |
| 3 | ![]() Strip the automech for its parts, giving you the Catalytic Amplifier. You can then head back to Delphinia and hand it to her to continue the quest. |
| Step-by-step Walkthrough | |
|---|---|
| 1 | ![]() To convince Woodrow, you can either pass a Leadership or Speech check, or use Donelson’s Terminal Log to persuade him. If you have either the Level 2 Leadership or Level 3 Speech requirements, he will give the device immediately. |
| 2 | ![]() If you don’t meet the skill requirements, you can go to Donelson’s office and access his terminal. You can use it with no problem, even if Donelson is standing right there. |
| 3 | ![]() Open and read the terminal log labeled "SUBJECT: Woodrow". |
| 4 | ![]() You now have the option to tell Woodrow about the log, and he will give the Catalytic Amplifier right up. |
| 5 | Return to Delphinia with the device and continue the quest. |
| Step-by-step Walkthrough | |
|---|---|
| 1 | ![]() With a Science! 4 requirement, you can ask Delphinia for a way to emulate a catalyctic amplifier instead by using the holo-emitter in Fairfield. |
| 2 | ![]() Go to Fairfield and head to the town hall in the central part of the area, where you met Minister Milverstreet before. |
| 3 | ![]() Enter the town hall and head to the staircase on the right. Climb up the scaffolding until you reach the upper floor, then enter the door immediately on the left. |
| 4 | ![]() Once outside, look to the left to see more scaffoldings. Climb up until you reach the roof. |
| 5 | ![]() On top of the roof, head left and follow the walkway until you reach a giant machine displaying a hologram advertisement. |
| 6 | ![]() Examine the machine to extract the holo-emitter. Return to Delphinia with the item and continue the quest. |

Delphinia will give you the Gas-Energy Deflection Apparatus gadget, which can be equipped in your inventory. Activating it grants a temporary shield against gas hazards, especially Zyranium. With this, you will complete the An Aegis Against the Miasma side quest.
It will automatically transition into the alternate Vanquishing the Vexing Vapors Protectorate side quest, which involves saving the ARC from the Zyranium instead of sabotaging it.
Note: At this point, you can choose whether to continue the sabotage plan for Kaur or help the Protectorate instead. You can still do more quests for either faction, regardless of the route you pick.
If you kill everyone inside the ARC, you can still assemble the Shield Gadget yourself to get past the Zyranium contamination and finish the sabotage.
![]() |
|
| Options to Assemble the Shield Gadget | |
|---|---|
| Assemble with the Catalytic Amplifier | With the Catalytic Amplifier in hand, you can assemble the Gadget easily. Collect this from the disabled dragoon west of the ARC. |
| With Science! at level 2, you can immediately assemble the Gadget yourself. | |
On Delphinia Bryant's former desk inside the facility, interact with the Partially Completed Gadget. To fix it, you can either pass a Science Check of Level 2 or assemble it with the Catalytic Amplifier to successfully get the Gas-Energy Deflection Apparatus gadget.
Warning!: Do not try to assemble the gadget without the Amplifier or Science Level 2. Doing so causes a malfunction, now needing both the Science skill and Amplifier to assemble it properly.
This means you will have to reload a save or level up Science!, which can be problematic if you're locked out of the Science skill due to the "Dumb" Trait.

Head west of the ARC towards a Crabble nest by the shore. Clear out the Crabble in the area, and at the heart of their nest is a fallen dragoon that you can examine and strip for parts to get the Catalytic Amplifier.
With the Amplifier in hand, return to Delphinia’s desk to assemble the Gas-Energy Deflection Apparatus gadget, which can be equipped in your inventory. Activating it grants a temporary shield against gas hazards, most importantly Zyranium.
| Step-by-step Walkthrough | |
|---|---|
| 1 | With the Gas Shield equipped, head to the contaminated building and activate the gadget while crossing the Zyranium-covered sections of the floor. Enter the next room by either hacking the locked door (Hack 2) or crawling through the vent below. Either path will bring you to the same room. |
| 2 | ![]() Clear out the Malfunctioning Automechs in the area. |
| 3 | ![]() Access the Terminal found behind a closed door, the area heavily contaminated by Zyranium. Rush to the terminal and select Seal Room & Vent Gas to immediately stop the continuous Zyranium buildup. |
| 4 | ![]() On the Terminal, select the Initiate Zyranium Flow Shutdown option. Ignore both warnings to shut it down to sabotage the ARC. See the alternate quest guide below for the route to save the ARC instead. ▶︎ Vanquishing the Vexing Vapors Walkthrough |
Note: Successfully sabotaging the ARC will fail the Vanquishing the Vexing Vapors quest. If you entered the ARC peacefully, the Protectorate will remain civil with you, despite failing the quest.
After sabotaging the ARC, report to Kaur and receive 1080 XP, the Designator Triple Barrel Shotgun, Kaur's Kuirass, and a +3 Auntie's Choice Rep Increase.
Next, you will be given the Ascent in the Howling Tower quest, where you can potentially weaken the Vox Relay’s defenses in preparation for a future assault.
Note: If you ended up saving the ARC instead of sabotaging it, you can still report to her and receive the follow-up quest. However, you will not receive the shotgun, armor, and rep rewards.
Milverstreet’s more political subterfuge-focused side quests will be unavailable if you go with Kaur's more direct methods. To work with Milverstreet, accept his offer instead. You can listen to both sides before deciding on your preferred approach.
Accepting Kaur's job will lock you out of Milverstreet's A Refreshing Bit of News and The Brain Benders of Auntie's Choice! side quests.
| Sabotage the ARC Rewards |
|---|
| ・1080 XP ・Designator Triple Barrel Shotgun ・Kaur's Kuirass (Armor) ・+3 Auntie's Choice Rep ・Completes Above and Beyond Repair |
| Save the ARC Rewards |
| ・1080 XP ・Repeating Rifle Explosive Rounds + Ammo Recipe ・The Dose (Helmet) ・x1000 Bits ・Completes Vanquishing the Vexing Vapors |
If you entered peacefully, you can choose to save the ARC by repairing the electrical conduits before shutting down the Zyranium flow.
This will fail Above and Beyond Repair but complete the Vanquishing the Vexing Vapors, giving you its own unique rewards. You can still continue Kaur’s questline even after saving the ARC by going back to her and reporting on what happened.
Should You Sabotage or Fix the ARC?
| Quest Completion Rewards | |
|---|---|
|
・1080 XP ・Designator Triple Barrel Shotgun ・Kaur's Kuirass |
|
| Faction Reputation | +3 Rep for Auntie's Choice |
