
Stabbing at Shadows is the second companion quest for Aza in the Outer Worlds 2. Read on for a full walkthrough of the companion quest, including info on how to unlock it and its rewards.

After completing The Dawn of a Glorious Betrayal and An Instrument to Unfold Space & Time, talk to Aza. However, before starting the quest, make sure to talk to Aza about the report you obtained from the Interstitial Reconfiguration Center to unlock additional dialogue options.
Note: Your dialogue choices in this quest can lead to different Aza endings.

| 1 | ![]() When you talk to Aza, she'll mention a friend within the Dawn that could have left a message for her. Accept her request to clear out Dawn camps around Praetor to search for it. |
| 2 | ![]() After the dialogue, head for the camp marked in your map and look for a communication device. The camp is located between Central Control and the Interstitial Reconfiguration Center. Fast travel to the Reconfiguration Center, or to Central Control if you have already previously discovered it. Don't cross the fallen bridge towards the verachnid drones. Instead, use the path near the Control Center. |
| 3 | ![]() You can find the communication device under a shed close to the wall near a campfire. Ignore the rift if you want to avoid combat, opening it will rephase back the cultists in the area which you'll have to fight. Otherwise, feel free to open it and clear the enemies. |

| Step-by-step Walkthrough | |

| 1 | ![]() Return to the Incognito and head to Cloister. From the landing pad, you can fast travel to Laplace's Garden if you have discovered it. If not, run southward. Then, go past Laplace's Garden and through a tunnel. |
| 2 | ![]() Keep going forward until you see a structure that looks like a large gun with a Rift Anomaly beside it. Turn left and follow the small path. |
| 3 | ![]() Proceed until you reach an alcove where you can find Aza's old friend, Severin. |

Speak with Severin. Depending on your dialogue choices and if you pass the skill checks, you can either make Aza kill or spare Severin.
If you do not convince Severin to help you and fail to make Aza spare him, he will signal the Protectorate guards to attack you, eventually killing him as well.

To spare Severin, you need to convince Aza with a Speech 11 skill. Even if you convince Severin to help you, if you do not pass the Aza Speech skill check, she will still kill him. Sparing Severin will help you avoid fighting the enemies hiding in ambush, as well as affect what ending Aza will get.

On your way to Dagmar, make sure to talk to Aza inside the Incognito or while exploring with her in your party. You may need to talk to her multiple times to exhaust all possible conversations. While this is optional, we highly recommend doing it if you want to get Aza's good ending.
To encounter these Speech checks, find the Glorious Dawn Report in Dr. Hurley's terminal in the Interstitial Reconfiguration Center during the quest An Instrument to Unfold Space & Time.

| 1 | ![]() Head back to the Incognito and travel to Central Control in Praetor. |
| 2 | Upon arriving in the Central Control Courtyard, go to the jail building to the right, marked by a sun symbol above its entrance. |

| 4 | ![]() When you've finished reading the message, a scene will play out. After the scene, you will be ambushed by Protectorate soldiers sent by Dagmar. |
| 5 | ![]() Kill all the enemies in the courtyard and the main building, then proceed to the lower floor. |
| 6 | ![]() After defeating the guards on the lower floor, enter the clinic. |
| 7 | ![]() Proceed to the hatch and enter the door on the other side, where you will find Dagmar. |
Once inside Dagmar's room, interrogate her or let Aza talk to her to know more about the cultists. You can then attack and kill Dagmar with Aza, allowing her to take her revenge. Alternatively, you can also try convincing Aza to spare Dagmar, which requires numerous skill checks.

To convince Aza to spare Dagmar, you will first need to raise your Speech to at least level 7. This allows you to succeed both the required conversation Speech checks, as well as the Speech checks during the confrontation with Dagmar.
Additionally, you need to have found the data of how Rifts being different compared to the Dawn's vision in Dr. Hurley's terminal inside the Interstitial Reconfiguration Center during the quest An Instrument to Unfold Space & Time.

After taking Dagmar down, Aza will inform you of her plan to lead the Dawn. You can agree with her or dissuade her from her plan. Take note that trying to dissuade Aza from leading the Glorious Dawn requires you to pass a difficult Speech skill check.
This skill check can be bypassed if you can convince Aza to spare Dagmar. You can then convince Aza to either turn the Glorious Dawn into a force for good or to disband it permanently.
Choosing to lead the Glorious Dawn in any way will unlock Aza's additional skill A New Cause, while choosing to disband it will instead unlock the additional skill No Cause.
You can let Aza kill or spare her old friend, Severin. If you spare Severin, you can avoid fighting enemies waiting in ambush. It can also help you reach Aza's good ending.
You can convince Aza to either spare or kill Dagmar during your confrontation. Sparing Dagmar will help you get Aza's good ending, but will require significant preparation to pull off. Sparing Dagmar will help you get Aza's good ending.

After dealing with Dagmar, you can choose to either have Aza lead or disband the Glorious Dawn. If she becomes the leader of the Glorious Dawn, she will unlock the additional skill A New Cause. This will happen regardles of whether or not the Glorious Dawn's objectives change.
Alternatively, disbanding the Glorious Dawn will unlock the additional skill No Cause.

The Glorious Dawn report, or the study about the nature of rifts, can be found on a terminal inside the room to the right of the Rift Modulator. Any of your companions should comment after you find out the information, and talking to Aza will result in her saying that she does not wish to discuss it.
