Decreases Your Reputation With Factions If Caught Stealing

Outer Worlds 2 Stealing

Stealing occurs when you loot an item that belongs to someone else. This is indicated by the red text prompt that appears when you hover over the item.

If you’re caught stealing in a Faction’s territory, your Reputation with that Faction will drop. This can lock you out of certain opportunities, and if your reputation gets too low, they may even place a Bounty on you.

If an NPC confronts you after being caught stealing, you can either pay the bounty, talk your way out of it with a high enough Speech skill, or even bribe them to look the other way. The NPC will then ignore the incident and let you go about your business. Certain Companions on some towns can also help alleviate the first offense.

Factions Will Attack You If Your Bounty Gets Too High

Outer World 2 Bounty Attack

The more people witness you stealing, the higher your Bounty will become. Once it reaches a certain level or price, members of that Faction will start attacking you on sight until you die or the Bounty is cleared.
