During Fiends in High Places, you'll get to decide whether to spare or kill de Vries. Sparing de Vries can lead you to the best outcome while killing her will affect the game's ending screen.

Should You Spare or Kill De Vries?

Spare De Vries and Save the Delegates for the Best Outcome

Spare de Vries

Sparing de Vries and disagreeing with her plan to kill the Delegates would be the best outcome in the quest. This results in zero casualties and prevents Niles from turning on you.

Take note that this outcome requires at least 3 levels in the skills Leadership and Speech. Having lower points in leadership and speech may prevent you from reaching this outcome.

Convince Niles to Trust You to Lower Skill Checks for De Vries

Convince Niles

During the confrontation with de Vries, Niles (if he's in the party) will encourage you to kill her. If you convince him to trust you by using a combination of Leadership (3) and Speech (3), the required skill levels for convincing de Vries to stand down will lower to 3 (Leadership and Speech).

Sparing De Vries and Killing the Delegates Results in Niles' Death

Hostile Niles

If Niles is in your party and you spare de Vries and agree with her plan to kill the Delegates, Niles will turn hostile. This leaves you no choice but to kill him, resulting in his permanent death.

Kill De Vries for Convenience

Kill de Vries

Killing de Vries is the easiest and most straightforward way to end the quest. De Vries has low health and deals low damage, posing little to no threat in combat. Additionally, no skill checks would be needed for this decision.

This decision, however, affects the ending screen of the game. De Vries' actions of treachery would never reach Earth Directorate, resulting in her being remembered as a star agent who tragically died during her mission.
