Mode Gameplay Effects
Outer Worlds 2 StoryStory Enemies have less health and do less damage. Use this mode if you enjoy story more than combat. Skill checks will also have lower level requirements, and you’ll receive more rewards from quests.
Outer Worlds 2 NormalNormal Enemies have standard health and damage. This is the recommended mode for your first play session.
Outer Worlds 2 Very HardHard Enemies have more health and deal more damage. This mode is for players who are looking for an extra challenge.
Outer Worlds 2 HardVery Hard Enemies have significantly more health and deal extra damage. This mode is for players who are looking for an extreme challenge.

Story Mode Has More Rewards and Lower Skill Check Requirements

Story Mode prioritizes exploration over combat by making enemy encounters less challenging and granting more rewards for completing quests. This mode also has its own set of differences from the other difficulty settings, with skill checks having lower level requirements. For example, a dialogue option that requires Speech Level 3 on Normal would only require Speech Level 2 in Story mode.
