During The Saboteur of Paradise, you will encounter Montelli in Vox Relay Station as the first boss in Outer Worlds 2. If you have completed the required steps and successfully passed the Speech level check, you can then have the choice to kill Montelli or not.

Choosing to spare Montelli avoids the boss fight entirely and unlocks a unique dialogue where he confesses to being instigated by another party. This path is only available if you complete the prerequisite steps and pass the necessary Speech checks. However, you will miss out on the XP gained from combat.

Choosing to kill Montelli is the default path if you fail the necessary skill checks, meaning you will have a fight against him and his supporting wasps and guards. The primary advantage here is the opportunity to earn extra XP from combat.
In both scenarios, you always receive the Chainspark Cannon and Officer Regalia. Currently, there is no known game-changing impact based on whether Montelli lives or dies, and his ultimate fate after The Saboteur of Paradise quest remains unknown.
Speech Skill Requirement: To ultimately convince Montelli to surrender and spare him, you must have a minimum Speech Level of 5. Before confronting him, you must also get Marshal Corbin on your side and get vital information from his terminal.

(Speech 2) After presenting the Writ or choosing these dialogue options, Corbin will agree to help and propose a plan to use Montelli’s terminal to get him to stand down. |

Choose the following dialogue options during the conversation: 1. Crisis? Are you talking about the war with Auntie's Choice? 2. What actions should the Sovereign have taken, in your estimation? 3. These extreme measures were never your idea in the first place, were they, Montelli? (Unlocks if you've read everything in Montelli's terminal.) 4. Do what you know is right, not what your puppeteer tells you. (Speech 5) |
