How to Unlock Perilous Journey to the Grove
Offer to Help Huell Chaudry in Fairfield
To get this task, head over to the Fairfield Jail and speak to Huell Chaudry (he's the man wearing a suit outside the jail). Offer to help Huell Chaudry with his problem to trigger the task, Perilous Journey to the Grove.

Make Your Way to Spire Grove
Jackson Plum - the friend Huell asks you to find - is located in the Spire Grove. Travel southwest of Fairfield to reach the broken elevator leading up to the grove.
If you have Engineering 3 you can repair the elevator and use it to reach the upper level. Otherwise, a short platforming sequence should get you up to the grove in a jiffy.
Examine Jackson's Body after He Falls
As soon as you reach the Harvester Tower in Spire Grove, you'll hear Jackson attempting to jump and land using his thruster boots. This ends poorly, resulting in his death. Examine his crumpled corpse to trigger a conversation with the 2 Protectorate survivors on the tower.
Get the Recovered Schematics from Jackson's Body
Once your conversation with the Protectorate survivors ends, you can re-examine the body of Jackson to get the Recovered Schematics quest item as well as pair of thruster boots (unlocks the double-jump).
Before you leave, you can also look to complete the side quest, A Final Death for Gravity. However, it is optional, so you can leave and come back later if you really want to finish this task first.
Deliver the Schematics to Huell Chaudry
With the Recovered Schematics obtained, head back to Fairfield and look for Huell Chaudry (he should still be on the same spot). Deliver the schematics to him to get 350 Bits.
