Oath of Vengeance Tenets

A Paladin's Tenets are the solemn Oaths and morals they swear to uphold. The following are the tenets that Oath of Vengeance Paladins have sworn to uphold:

  • Fight the Greater Evil: Exerting your wisdom, identify the higher morality in any given instance, and fight for it.
  • No Mercy for the Wicked: Chasten those who dole out their villainy by wiping their blight from the world forever.

Breaking or going against any of these Tenets when making certain dialogue choices will trigger the appearance of the Oathbreaker Knight in your camp.

By speaking to the Oathbreaker Knight, you will be given the option to change your subclass into the Oathbreaker or to remain pure. By remaining pure, you will be unable to utilize your Channel Oath mechanic until you pay the Oathbreaker Knight 2,000 gold to reaffirm your Oaths.

Channel Oath

As an Oath of Vengeance Paladin, your Channel Oath powers will focus on weakening your enemies while making yourself stronger. Eventually guaranteeing yourself an advantage, regardless of how bad the start of the fight is looking.

Much like regular spells, the Channel Oath action will have you spend a Channel Oath Charge and an Action or Bonus Action before you can cast it. You will have 1 Charge to use. To replenish your Channel Oath Charges, simply perform a Short or Long Rest.

Channel Oath Powers

Channel Oath Effect
Inquisitor's Might
(Level 1)
A buff that adds +2 Radiant damage to allies' weapon attacks, as well as a chance to Daze enemies.
Dazed enemies are more susceptible to disabling spells, take more damage from attacks, and are unable to use reactions.
Abjure Enemy
(Level 3)
Enemies affected by this ability are easier to hit and cannot move.
Enemies who roll successful Saving Throws are Slowed instead of being stopped.
Vow of Enmity
(Level 3)
A buff that forces a character to gain Advantage on Attack Rolls against targets.

Oath of Vengeance Spells

Baldur

Oath spells exist within a unique category in that once they have been learned through leveling up, they will always be available for you to cast. This means that your Paladin will always have these spells equipped, regardless of having prepared them or not.

Furthermore, these Oath spells are what differentiate each of the Paladin's subclasses, with Oath of Vengeance Paladins learning spells that are offensive in nature.

Oath of Vengeance Paladins will first gain access to these spells at levels 3, 5, and 9, with each milestone granting access to 2 Oath Spells.

Level Oath Spells Unlocked
Level 3 Bane (Enchantment)
Hunter's Mark (Divination)
Level 5 Hold Person (Enchantment)
Misty Step (Conjuration)
Level 9 Haste (Transmutation)

Relentless Avenger

Relentless Avenger is a passive ability that increases your movement speed whenever you perform an opportunity attack.

This passive grants the Paladin the ability to chase down and finish off fleeing targets. Most notable when fighting against ranged enemies and spell casters, since these have a tendency to turn their backs and try to put distance between yourself and them.
